Indeed. But to be clear, the G12 V12 was never in question (at least to me). Its the following generation and beyond where it gets more cloudy. As I said, the V12 itself will live indefinitely due to Rolls Royce where the 12 cylinder engine is the only one on offer, a fact which will doubtfully change soon. But in the 7 Series, with the V8 from Alpina and V12 making similar power, there is clearly overlap. It is true that this situation has existed for some time, including with BMW's Mercedes Benz S Class and Audi A8 competitors. But with hybrid drive becoming more and more a feature that itself carries some prestige, it is not impossible to imagine the V12's importance becoming diminished in this class. There will likely come a time when the top of the line 7 Series, A8, and S Class are all using a V8 plus electric motor. Who makes the first move is yet to be determined.

I'd be quite happy if I could even order a X4 M40i......but I can't.

I've had two BMW dealers admit in conversation that they have lost a lot of customers to Porsche, as a result of BMW-GB not selling 6 cyl petrol engine X3/X4 in the UK.

Sadly, I'll be another as with no 35i or 40i X3/X4 option, let alone a X3M/X4M option, I too will be heading in Porsche's direction in 12 months time.

Is the X4 M40i not to be available in the UK market?

No announcement as yet that it will be, and the word from talking to dealers is that it's unlikely it will be given there is no petrol engine option at all for the X3/X4 in the UK.

The trouble is, with Macan lead times of nearly 12 months on the petrol models, if there's no announcement of the X4 M40i for the UK within the next few months, it will be too late for me, as I would have ordered the Macan so as to be able to take delivery by next spring.

When does the F30 series end production?
Is it MY 2017 or MY 2018?
Thanks

EOP is 10/18. The final model year should be an extended MY2018 just as the final model year F10 is MY2016 with EOP this year, 10/16.

Those of you who still think X5M and X6M are ridiculous oxymorons - please walk away now.

For everyone else, the news is:

F97 X3M (G01 based) and F98 X4M (G02 based) are coming.

In other news:

- i3, in addition to the bigger battery, will get another (sportier?) version called i3s
- F82 M4 CS (Clubsport) is apparently a thing. No idea how it's gonna be different from the standard M4.
- 760i (without the M) has been finally dropped.
- US market G01 X3 diesel is now called xDrive30d instead of xDrive28d. Still could be no more than badge engineering.
- I15 i8 Roadster is real.

I have a few questions:

1. So the F80 will be done in 2018. Will the new one come in 2019 as a MY2020, or in 2020 as a MY2021?

2. Will the future M3 still be offered with a manual transmission?

3. Will the future M3 hava a "normal" engine with RWD, or should we expect eDrive with AWD?

Nice to finally hear those confirmed.

Now the speculation about engine choice will heat up. A version of the S55 seems likely, but a new B58-based "S58" M motor also seems plausible. I don't think they'll go with a lightly massaged N55 (or B58 for that matter) non-M motor for these particular vehicles, but I couldn't say it's impossible.

And then of course there is the potential for a Power eDrive solution, but I feel like we're not quite there yet.

Thanks for the updates.

M cars always come a couple of years after the introduction of the base model. No reason to expect anything else now. The details of the next M3 won't be available for quite some time still.

Now that X3M and X4M are there where I can see them, pretty soon I should be able to tell which engines they'll have.

I wonder what timeline we're talking about for a G01 X3M.....2018? or later than that?

Inevitable. M Performance X1 and X2 models also expected with standard xDrive.

Finally! I predict these will be hot. Probably more profitable than the F80, more production capacity, and broader appeal.

Isn't that how car companies stay in business? I know at my job, our goal is to make money and return profit for the shareholders, while at the same time fulfilling market demand.
