Damn that thing is fast, smooth, great drive and ride. Much more room than the M3 - and much faster. Have to make an agonizing decision now.
And ugly as hell..
Uh yeah.... I think I already may be down from the ledge.... If I hadn't gotten July rates, I might have strayed

Staying tuned for updates!

Tagging along on this thread for updates.

I found exactly what I wanted on the lot at my local dealer a few weeks back: Sapphire Black/Black interior F80 with ZCP package with an auto (Will be the wife's car) and by the time I got everything ready to purchase the car the stop delivery was in effect. My dealer seems to have less info than this thread and they have stopped returning my calls. Looks like I'll be paying on the loan before I take delivery!!

I feel for you guys on ED or who have already sold cars! This will be my 4th M3 over the years but first new M3 purchase (and first 4 door family car version of the M3). I have loved every one of them especially my first cosmos schwartz/black interior 1996 M3 Coupe. Definitely frustrated with the lack of communication on this more than anything. I would expect much better from a premium car manufacture.

Lets hope they get this corrected within the next month. If I have to send the check back to the bank because its only good for 60 days I may just kill the whole deal!

Too bad there isn't room in a Porsche GT3 RS for a kid seat... Would much rather be adding that to my garage right now. Guess I'll have to wait until its my turn for a new car to replace my highly modified black/black Cayman S.

Diff fix, BMW provided fix update this week

I took delivery of my M3 2 days before the notice came out, otherwise my dealer would have withheld the car. Yes, I fall into the new differential category. On Friday my dealer confirmed that they would be ordering a new differential on Monday for subsequent fitting when received. So, at least the repair ball is rolling. I stopped driving mine 2 days ago due to unpleasant mechanical noises from the rear. I have a loan car until mine is repaired. I just hope our respective dealer workshops are up for this major surgery.

Does anyone have a real idea on how long this 'operation' might take?

Love the car, and just hope the fix is seamless and the future is fault free!

My car is sitting at the dealer waiting for this fix. I was told by my sales advisor that it would take 1-1.5 days to perform the fix, once they receive the new parts.

Call BMW genius they have new ETAs now for delivery. 1 (844) 443-6487. If your car is stuck at the VPC you also have to factor in the time of the car being released to the carrier and delivered to your dealer. Then your dealer has to do PDI.

Tried to get an update from Genius and my CA on Friday, but they can't give me an ETA as my car was released from the VPC and is sitting in the Performance Center lot. So Genius said the car shows up in their system as dealer stock (but sold) and it won't give updates with regards to this repair anymore.

Thanks. I just hope my local dealer workshop is capable of getting this done in that time frame and with 100% success. The M differential seems quite a complex animal.

I have done a tiny bit of research and it looks like these things just bolt on.

this is just stupid. I really dislike the way BMW handled this situation.

why is it time consuming? Dont you just drop off the old diff and put in the new one instead?

It's really not very difficult, RWD car. Look at realoem, nothing unusual about how the diff installs (though internally it may be much more complex than a normal one). Comes down right between the exhaust - bolt off, bolt on, fill diff oil? 1-2 hours, probably under an hour for the tech who gets assigned a batch of them.

It may have changed since when I did a diff replacement ona BMW, but I doubt it..

in order to drop the diff, you have to disconect the drive shaft (bolts), and also the output shafts. In order to disconnect the output shafts, you have to remove the rear brakes and hub assemblies.

I can see it taking 4-5 hours for a good mechanic.

time to air freight! Don't care how much it costs - the supplier will have to foot the bill.
