It's not that easy and a bit drawn out but the gun powder residue has to be cleaned off, liberal cleaning with hot water and gun oil application gives me a good feel when done.

Hot water? I've only read of that as a thing to do if you use corrosive ammo (which I avoid)
Only shot a bolt action suppressed a couple of times. That was fun - but no personal 'whisper pickles' yet, so I have no idea. AR cleaning is something I'm very careful about (and hate) - maybe it's time to build a gas piston AR, preferably with a lug |

If you think an AR is a pain don't even think about cleaning an MP5 that has had a few hundred rounds through it suppressed.

If you like to have a clean rifle, then knock your socks off, otherwise just lube it and go. |

I should explain: it was my first time cleaning an AR - and I was just surprised at how much there was to clean and how dirty it had gotten, compared to the Kalash.
(Only reason I want something with a lug is for a bayonet) I had no idea of how dirty an MP5 gets. I am in the market for an SP5 (I'd prefer an actual for-real MP5, but I don't want to drop 20 grand - that's a lot of hookers and blow) |

Just looked at your post to see the ammo - just seems like regular 22 LR?
Is it corrosive? The only corrosive ammo I know of is Eastern European surplus - using a corrosive primer. |

Honestly the semi versions do nothing for me. Might as well get a 9mm AR for lots less that works as well or better. But to each their own. |

AR cleaning? You don't need to clean the gas tube every time you shoot. It's okay to leave the chamber/barrel a little dirty, but your right it does get much more dirtier than a piston or AK. I use to clean it more regularly, but I don't nowadays, and my AR still works as it get dirty. Note that I do run my AR's suppressed which gets dirtier faster. I remember having a rep out on the training range and he fired about 1300 rounds suppressed across 3 days before seizing up. There was no cleaning or lubing during the test, they allowed it to get dirty. It was filthy, but it ran a pretty long time. They added lube during the time of seizing.. and it ran a little but then seized up again. It was just a sludge.
My MP5 I think my cocking tube is getting dirty. That's the only part that is a pain to clean. Note I legally run FA on both AR and MP5. |
