Looking forward to it! Not the last ride mentioned, the weekend as a whole. haha

I rode in 2 Hincapie Grand Fondos held annually in the Fall. Awesome scenery and roads but lots of tough hills. We stay in Greenville as the Hotel Domestique is booked a year in advance but it is awesome. You were lucky to get a room. Enjoy and put on a 32 gear in the rear. Made a difference for me. I actually finished right in front of George. However, he did the 80 and I did the 50.

I did the Ride with the Pros yesterday which is a special invitation only prior to the Wilmington Grand Prix this saturday. My financial guy who sponsors it got me in. It was brutal. 97 degrees, windy and hilly. The pros throttled back but people were dropping like flies including me. I am not ready for those temps yet. Riding in the Grand Fondo on Sunday with temps forecast for 70. This 73 year old old guy was wasted. Resting today.

We did the Caesars head to Flat rock route. Awesome ride! We had a blast!

Looks like it's going to rain all day tomorrow. This might be the only ride we get in this weekend. Well, we did a short arrival spin in to Greenville and back too.

Whoa! Almost 6k ft in elevation change? And here I am happy with my 10 mile road/trail ride today with 350ft of elevation change. Oy. I have a long way to go.

Nice stats, though. Looks like a great ride. I'll have to try out a pure road bike one of these days.

You should be. I didn't start riding elevation until I was able to sustain a reasonably decent pace for 40 miles. Then I only started with 900-1000 ft over 30 miles and grew from there. The only reason I remember that is because one, it was about 14 months ago and I picked up cycling to for a specific ride that would cover 23,000ft of elevation over 5 days.

When climbing, the use of a HR monitor or in my case a power meter, while knowing my FTP allows me to cap my effort to a maximum power output that I know I can sustain for about 4 hours. This keeps me from blowing up mid ride. There is a finite amount of musculature and cardiovascular power available for any given block of time. Knowing that end point allows you to manage that power for the duration of your ride. Use it for speed, endurance, climbing, etc...

Capping the power output when climbing tacks on some time to the ride due to slow climbing, but being from FL I'm ok with that. Lol. Of course my gearing and some of these grades getting up to 9% and 10% forced a higher watt expenditure for those sections. That or fall over. Haha.

You'll get there. Just keep pedaling!

Did a really fun route before checkout this morning.

Had a very steep climb in the beginning but the rest were lots of fun!

love cycling and just taped my bars for the first time..drooling for a garmin edge 25...

random question...i had a bad fall on a wet bridge, where my back tire slipped out. Now my bike feels it slightly leans the right side, or the back wheel feels woobly. idk wheel looks tru and hub is fine. Think its PTDS
Crashes can do weird things, worth getting your bike checked out at an LBS. My theory one stuff like this is that it's better to get it checked and find nothing, than to find out you actually have an out of shape wheel or real problem at 50+ on a downhill...

Cheers

Good Morning,

Did anybody on this forum come down to Augusta this past weekend to race in the U.S. Mens Masters Nationals? I had a few teammates that competed in the RR out at Ft. Gordon.
Cheers... Karsten

I didn't, but two of the locals who we ride with from time to time competed in the women's RR. One of them got second in the photo finish. 1st and 2nd have same time, came down to photo. lol And the other one came in 6th i believe. Both ride with West Coast Cycling.

Kind of funny the results page show the women doing 96k course. With their time on that distance their avg MPH would have been 27.8. Clearly they did a shorter course. haha

Yeah, I believe it was Jan Burger who took second. Great race. The men's 40-44 race was pretty impressive as well. My teammate was in this race and there was a 7 man break after 3 laps. They had a 2:40 gap on the rest of the field and everyone thought for sure that it would stick. Well, let's just say that when they came back around on lap 4 it was a 3 man break and the gap went down to 2:20. At this point Michael Olheiser launched his move from the Peleton and bridged the gap to the lead riders to finish 2nd to Emile Abraham!! Pretty damn impressive!!

Yep, Jan and Kim are the locals "fast chicks" we ride with.

The mens race sounds like it would have been great to watch!

My teammate raced in the men's 35+ RR and Crit, finished 11th and 6th respectively. A pretty good showing!

I rode the Chrono (TT) event at one of the qualifying rounds for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series this weekend just passed.

I won my Age Group (19-34) by a whole minute and narrowly missed out on the overall win by 40 seconds.

Qualified for the World Final in Albi, France in August where I'd like to be crowned amateur world champ!

I must say that road cycling has taught me to be disciplined..i am still a beginner and what makes it amazing is: you're fast, you're challenging yourself, you learn the ways of the road and you learn to be more respectful when you're driving your car. The scenery, seen at your own speed, and testing your limits make it all worthwhile! Love it!
