Great detail for such a huge crop. Love the eye light. I would have commented sooner, but my connection at the Grand Canyon wasn't good for more than 30-sec at a time.

For such a beautiful setting and nice light, why wouldn't you use natural colors? Just wondering. I see a lot of people doing this and I just don't understand the objective. Great composition and exposure, BTW.

That's a single shot with the 5D MkII and the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS at 73mm, ISO 200, f/16, -2/3EV because of the bright snow resulting in 1/320-sec. The 5D2 has exceptional dynamic range for a digital camera and I used DxO to increase shadow detail a little. The sun was behind me, making it easier. I DO enhance shadows by pumping the Contrast up quite a bit AND I set my Black Point and White Point right at the thresholds. Dave

Nice shot, Dave. Not too sure you could get much closer. That would definitely be starting down a slippery slope.
BTW, are you spending any time in Vegas while you're there?

I like to get as natural as I can: That is a beautiful picture. Thanks for the compliments on my Snake River gorge photo. However, the light wasn't very favorable, with the photo taken directly into the setting sun. It actually was starting to get pretty dark. I usually favor mild HDR myself (as in the Yellowstone pool), but in the case of this picture, I thought that it came out better using tone compression instead of details enhancer. The color does have a purple tinge, but I thought that it didn't look too bad. I think that in the case of this picture, the colors of the sunset were reflected better in the river than they were in the sky.
