The strong diagonal lines more than make up for the looseness of following the rule-of-thirds. Strong diagonals can add lots of power to an image.

Sooo....looked what walked by my office this evening. Not much to shoot out here (at least not what interests me) so I was pretty excited. Was pitch black...used a little Mag-lite for lighting:

It's a web sharpen action I made on CS5. That's how it is when I try to save time and run my photos in a batch.

Well in the interest of full disclosure he had just been blasted with a serious does of "Bug Stop" (yeah that is the actual name of the product) so he was probably trying to figure out what the curious sensation was coursing through his myriad limbs.

The Mag-lite actually worked out great due to being very mobile and not over-bearing...a much softer light than I expected versus those LED flashlights that have become so popular in the last few years. Being able to angle it for the best lighting was a big plus. I probably could have gotten a sharper shot but given the darkness and the subject I was not really gonna mess about to much

My new 8mm. Love this thing. Just need to brush up on exposure settings. It tends to shoot to the right, so that's not bad. But I don't seem to be getting the contrast right.

Thanks, Seth. I'd love to get a shot of the city from the planetarium parking lot with this lens.

Nice shot, but what's with the reflections? Were you in another vehicle behind the Porsche?

I really like the perspective of the road curving toward the mountain. For some reason the back of the car seems OOF. You should have been stopped to f/11 or even f/16 to maximize DOF. Still, it's a very good start. you have a good eye.

I would have moved up the road just a little bit to try to get a spot where the road wouldn't go out of view until much later.
