They're definitely based on reality and I enjoyed the movie's parody of it.

Yup, I wish I recorded a scene when I went to one of many fancy restos back in the day. This guy was standing over our table giving me this freaking long lecture describing this nasty soup in a micro dish that was some appetizer thing the chef gifted us, ugh, it was so bad: imagine 3 mouthfuls of stale, cold tomato soup but in green.

It's so bad when they go artsy and forget about feeding the diner. I don't care about the aesthetics as they usually do that wrong too since it's so pretentious.

I've been through that a few times. Now I hardly ever go to fancy restaurants...maybe once a quarter for a special occasion. For me, simple/basic dishes usually taste way better.

Ah yes, bullshit food. Pretentious Michelin stars.
Rarely satisfying, often not very delicious.

It's edible art, which sounds about as delicious as, well... eating art.

Saw “The Whale” with Brendan Fraser last night. Interesting movie and great acting from the cast. Lots of symbolism. My date and I enjoyed it.

Yes, the acting was superb. I hope he gets lots of movies going forward. He was a good dude and actor. Shame he disappeared from Hollywood for so long.

Found this on Brendan Fraser:

"In an interview with GQ in 2018, the 53-year-old shared that he suffered years of injuries from the stunts he performed in his various starring roles, which resulted in many surgeries and had a lasting impact."

The real reason Brendan Fraser quit Hollywood

Also heard something about him being sexually assaulted. There's a lot to read on the web. Don't know exactly what's true or not.

I do recall some of this from a YouTube video. It really was unfortunate.

Which? The injuries or the sexual assault? Or both?

Both. I either read it or saw a video about it some time ago. That’s why I was looking forward to the movie and his return to the big screen. He was one of those celebrities that was well liked but had crappy things happening to. If anything, I went to see The Whale to support him in a sense.

Ya, I heard generally about the awful things that happened to Brendan Fraser: if it could affect him and even that tough guy (football player turned actor?) Terry Crews, the trauma of which reduced him to tears, what chance does a reg person have against these vile bigwig predators in Hollywood? It's quite sickening and needs to be exposed but that institution is still too powerful atm, even though there was a little crack, e.g. Me Too/Weinstein, definitely not enough.
