Did you try launcher pro? The OEM SG2 theme sucks. Went to the market and downloaded launcher pro for free and changed the whole theme of the phone. Btw, are we able to get the ice cream sandwich on SG2? |

1. Setcpu 2. titanium backup. remove all the stupid AT&T apps or other apps you dont use and backup your phone. 3. adfree. blocks all ads on websites you surf You might also want to look into NO LED. Since SG2 does not have LED like other android out there NO LED will flash a notification on the screen without draining the battery. |

It makes my GSII look outdated. After 6 months of ownership, I've finally had enough. Tired of all the lock ups and reboots.
iOS is tempting but I hate the fact that Apple locks you in with their OS.

Looks good. Hardware specs are a bit underwhelming, but Samsung does want to be able to move as many SGSIIIs as they possibly can when it comes out, right?
I'm liking what I've seen with ICS so far, and it should be much more optimized for multi-core phones. Maybe the Android crowd is finally realizing there is more to a phone than just a spec sheet? Now we just have to wait and see when they'll be available. It would have been nice to have the GSM based version also support LTE, but I guess you can't have everything. HSPA+ is weak, but it'll do. Google kinda screwed up with how great the N1 was. Now everyone expects releases that are leaps and bounds ahead of everything available, hardware-wise. A lot of people are claiming to be disappointed already just based on the hardware specs. Fandroids can be so annoying. |

5mp camera? I thought these phones were supposed to be ahead of the iPhone.

The hardware is kind of disappointing. Have a galaxy S2 myself which I love and I wouldn't mind upgrading for the 1280x720 screen (although it's pentile I don't think I would notice) the GPU is still the SGX540 which is from 2007 and the original Galaxy S. I would've much rather prefered they used the Exynos chip from the galaxy S2 and given up LTE.
On the software side ICS looks pretty good but I'm not sure how the GPU will keep up having to power a lot more pixels.

The potential is there, yes. But whether google will support those codecs is unknown. From their previous history they only really supported H.263/H.264 encode/decode and to watch native MKV's or something you'd need a 3rd party player like mobo/rockplayer/dice which wouldn't be as efficient.
Samsung on the other hand tries to support as many codecs as they can and are well known for being able to playback virtually any file you throw at it. I can load up 720p MKV bluray rips to my phone (SGS2) and it'll playback in the stock player with no issues at all. Also I can output via the HDMI adapter to my plasma as well and have perfect playback with subtitles if the MKV has them. The issues I was wondering about was the 3D GPU performance which will undoubtedly be lacking since the GPU is quite old. I realize not everyone plays games on their phones but the lack of potential means a less fluid interface for many apps that rely on or use modern 3D GUI's.

I guess we'll see.... Also don't forget that it's clocked to ~380+ MHz with the OMAP 4460, not the same as the ~200MHz in the SGS. The GLBench of the 4430 plus the SGX540 at ~300MHz (LG Optimus 3D) was already higher than that of the Exynos4210 and Mali400 in the SGSII. Sucks it's still on 45nm tech though. It'll be interesting to see if the 3D GUIs will indeed suffer as much as people are worried about. Hardware acceleration and an optimized OS should help as well. I think the benchmarks you're referring to were done when the Optimus 3D came out in February which was before the release of the SGS2 and was using beta software.
Latest benchmarks show the SGS2 has a significant advantage over the Optimus 3D: http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph4951/41613.png If the phone can't achieve at least 50fps on 3D applications it'll look choppy and jittery compared to iOS which will be a waste of having such a nice screen. However, we won't know how this will end up until we actually see some results. Higher clock, better CPU (as compared to the Optimus), hardware acceleration, supposedly better optimized OS, etc.... My main point was that the SGX540 isn't the same in context as it was four years ago. I think it'll be just fine, but that's yet to be seen. |

And i also got to add that comparing megapixels is like comparing horsepower. Just like cars, there's a lot more to a camera than the resolution it shoots at.
Also, supposedly Canada should be getting the phone in November aswell, which is very nice to see |

ive got a galaxy S 1 and im still running 2.2 with no hope of 2.3 anytime soon. i wouldn't count on Samsung to make any effort being quick with the 4.0 upgrade. Seems like they say they will to get you to buy and then go ahead and drag their feet until the next phone comes out taking the heat off the old one...Just my experience, perhaps they follow through this time around but who knows...
