Coming from the Subie world before buying my BMW, I can tell you from experience that the Subaru WRX is one quick car, even from stock. Bolt-on parts are not that expensive and they can give you a lot of extra hp really quick. WRX's are a lot lighter than the heavy 3series, a couple hundred pounds lighter. Add all that with their AWD system and its easy to see why they smoked you off the line.

Also, a very common mod with the STi owners is swapping trunk lids with WRX and Impreza owners. That giant wing is a cop magnet, so a lot of them swap trunk lids for the smaller WRX spoiler or the wingless Impreza lid. So, just because it didnt have that enormous wing on the back, doesn't mean it wasnt an STi.

And that exhaust note is not atrocious, its awesome. When you hear that rumble, you know its 1 of 2 things, either a Subaru or a broken Honda, lol.

because it didn't have the STi badge on it. removing the STi badge from a subaru would be like removing the m3 badge

No it isn't, a lot of Subie guys debadge their cars completely. Not saying the one you saw did or not, just saying its also a common mod, ESPECIALLY if they traded trunks with someone. The badging is on the trunk lid itself, if the lids were swapped, then so are the badges. So a lot of guys in the Subie world debadge their cars. I did when I had mine, I swapped trunks twice, and I debadged them both.

Yeah man, Subie owners are not like M3 owners. They WILL debadge their STi's, just for unsuspecting 335i owners

+1. I really love STi's with the normal Impreza trunk, they look a lot cleaner. There was a dude in HS with one, complete douche bag. But he definitely had the quickest car in school.

WRX's can be modified so unbelievably much. That little 4-cylinder can put out some serious, serious power with the right mods. Not to mention, the AWD system makes launching a lot better.
