It's the same design as the Tesla Model X. Same shape.
Good news is it allows for a really awesome, spacious interior. Bad news it doesn't HAVE to follow the same trends as the i3. But oh well. Exciting times!

Producing an electric car doesn't mean it has to look like it was designed by aliens. The overall silhouette and shape of the i4/i5 renders look like a sorry rip-off of the Tesla Model X, which is by-no-means a good looking car either Quote:
A lot of people like Tesla's designs but I've never been drawn to the spaceship/techie look (the Model X in particular is a travesty) and the giant 17 inch iPad in the interior also fails to impress me, very gimmicky.

It combines the worst design features of the Tesla X and the i3. It looks like a car designed by a committee of fired Buick and BMW designers whose previous design experience was refrigerators. (Jobs they were also fired from since the refrigerators they proposed were also too boring.)

That thing looks ridiculously tall. Are they going for the sedan look or more BMW GT look? Front-end looks great but everything else is highly questionable.

It's hideous. didn't bmw learn anything from the low volume sales of the i3 and i8? this new design language is hideous.
Somebody needs to wake up in Bavaria. Some companies are designing incredible looking cars and BMW is off the rails with this crap. I own 4 bmw's so I'm not a basher either. I want them to come out with something I lust after not something I am embarassed to be seen in. C'mon bmw... |

Low sales? the world is more than just the US Here in Norway it's BMWs best selling car and was the best selling EV in September and ranked #10 overall for Sept.
Looking good! I really hope the inside will be inspired by the i3 (and i8) rather than all other BMWs which are all pretty much the same and very conservative. One user mentioned the 17 inch Tesla screen. That was one of the reasons I didn't want the Model S, but after about a year I gave up waiting for a 5-seater BMW EV (I do have an i3, but also 3 kids..) so ended up buying a Model S. After a few weeks use I loved the screen and still do. If the i5 gets 400kms range, OTA updates and 4WD I'm likely to queue up at my local dealer. My biggest fear is it will have the same type of back doors as the i3, which need a lot of space on parking lots |

The sad thing is unlike with most concepts this will probably be equally or even more cartoony by the time it actually launches.
Ew.

I generally consider myself a petrol head and a true car lover.
However to the suprise of most I am quite open to the idea of electric cars and hybrids, providing they look good and handle well. Unfortunetly I am yet to see any electric car I like the look of enough to buy at any price point. Why do manufacturers feel that because the cars is eco friendly it must either be A) futuristic and ugly looking or B) be a standard version of the car with small terrible wheels (cough* Volvo) To me At the minute the 330e is the car setting the example of how a hybrid should be built. |
