Fuck Kobe.
I don't follow that part about the other team knowing it was done by 3rd quarter. They had the lead until last minute.

The Lakers are so bad, even with Utah demoralized, they were still losing. Utah knew they were done and basically let Kobe go off in the 4th.

Not like Kobe had an efficient game anyway....50 shots to score 60 is garbage.

To put it in perspective, Dirk scored 48 points on 15 shots in a playoff game against the Thunder.

Hate the guy but man what a way to go out. I'm sure all Kobe fans shed a tear at the end. My wife sure did.

It's not the 22/50 that he shot to get 60 points that's impressive (though 44% shooting is not too shabby, given the volume of shots and given that he started 0-5 in the game), but the 5/5 FG, 4/4 FT and 1 assist in the final 3 minutes AND brought the team back from 10 points down in the final 2:30 of the game that was vintage Kobe. THAT was the most impressive.

Now, if you say that Utah played terrible defense during that stretch, here's a video of Kobe's final 5 shots. Tell me where Utah could have improved on defense (and don't say, "Utah should have quadruple-teamed Kobe because we all knew Kobe was going to shoot the ball." Teams are trained the whole season to play team defense in the context of normal regular season game.).

Kobe shot 50 shots to score 60...not an efficient game and Utah didn't give a crap.

And yes, I think Kobe is a piece of shit...great basketball player, piece of shit.

I remain unimpressed in his 60 point performance on 50 shots in a game that didn't matter. Utah played "OK" defense those last 5 shots, but they knew it was over for them and some guys caved to the "it's Kobe" mentality during other parts of the game.

This is efficiency in a game that mattered.

So, you're comparing Nowitzki's most efficient game in 2011 against Kobe's final farewell game at the age of 37? Not saying Nowitzki's game wasn't impressive (it was), but that's apples and oranges. If you want to cherry-pick games, how about I raise you a game that Kobe and Nowitzki BOTH played in.

http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=251220013

[Note that I make no commentary on Kobe as a human being apart from basketball.]

That's not that point. The reason I posted an efficient game is people are having trouble understanding that "OMG 60 POINTS!#$!$!!!!" is a joke if you shoot 50 and your team is letting you take every shot and the other team is lackluster defensively. No intensity and people are falling over themselves to "honor a great."

The point is, this farewell game was not very impressive and shit on many levels:

1) Meaningless game
2) Utah gave up
3) Kobe took every conceivable shot
4) Kobe took 50 shots
5) Kobe missed 28 shots

Also, Kobe is a classless bastard that made this entire year all about him. When Dirk goes out, he's not going to tell people "this is it" in like game 10 and make the rest of the year about him.

It's a joke...Kobe is a piece of shit person and didn't win anything without the best big man ever and another stacked team with Gasol in his prime.

Understood. I'm not one of those who was impressed with the 60 points. Like I said before, I was impressed with the 100% efficiency in the last 3+ minutes while willing this team to victory (albeit against a team with nothing to gain). It wasn't like Utah let him have layup after layup. He did hit a contested fadeaway 3-pointer and a couple midrange shots. He also went 4/4 at the free-throw line as well. After playing 40 minutes on 37-year old legs. Just a nice way to go out.

What I am more impressed with - Tim Duncan's career.

If this is the Big Fundamental's last ride - I don't think we will ever see his level of excellence over a career again.

He was a pivotal player in one of the most recognized franchises in the history of the game for 20 freaking years. I am pretty sure that the fans made it all about Kobe his last year.

I know it's a huge plus for Duncan that he has 5 championships, but Dirk's career has been more dominant, particularly on the offensive end. Duncan was a great defender and rebounder, but I think Dirk is an underrated defender (not anymore) and has been a pretty decent rebounder.

Duncan is the 5th best player on his current team and Dirk is still the best on his at 37, tied 1-1 with the Thunder. The Mavs have made the playoffs 15/16 years and despite not having as much success as the Spurs, they've won a championship, gone to the Finals twice, and been in the Western Conf finals multiple times.

Duncan hasn't been the best player on the Spurs in probably 7 years and his franchise is the most incredible part of his career. The Spurs are the best team in the NBA (debatable, but top 1-2) and they don't even play Duncan.

My point is, Duncan's career is amazing but his organization is a huge part in always putting together a championship team.

At the end of the day - Duncan is a more accomplished player in longevity, awards, and consistency.

Regardless of the players or system around him - Duncan is still relevant on a 67 win team fighting for a championship. The Lakers, with Kobe, are a lottery team in his last year.

Dirk is a great player - not even close to Duncan though...

Lol Dirk is no duncan. Duncan is relevant because of the system he's in that's reality. I love Tim Duncan he might be in the conversation for best pf ever, but the Mamba arguably one of the best players ever.
