And Panasonic isn't going to be in the plasma market much longer. Again, it says a lot that Pioneer TVs which are many years old still can compete with the best of what's out there currently. Imagine if people actually got a clue with what constitutes a good picture and actually bought a quality TV instead of what just pops picture wise. Imagine how good TVs would be now had Pioneer stayed in the TV business.
+1

I have viewed the Panasonic plasmas and my opinion is their picture quality is not as good. Perhaps not all of Pioneer's hardware or construction made it into these sets.

There is a reason why the Pioneer Kuro plasmas have a cult following. They really are that good.

I can be accused of being a Pioneer snob, but I am speaking from my own personal opinion. I have two Pioneer Elite plasma sets. One is a pretty old 1010HD which is still pretty decent compared to current TVs. It does suffer from poorer black level performance. My reference and flagship TV is the 141FD. It's the last of the Kuro 9G TVs. When Pioneer announced they were getting out of the TV business, I immediately snatched one up. Both of these TVs have been ISF calibrated and the 141FD still trumps pretty much all TVs on the market today.

Until OLED becomes more reasonable in both price and size, I'll wait before I even considering replacing either of my Pioneers.
Totally agree! Picked up one of the last KURO 50" plasmas when I heard they were not going to make them anymore. Best, most film-like movie watching experience I've seen on a tv. I can't stand the "soap opera" effect on LCD/LED tvs so I'm hoping my KURO will last a good while.

Does anyone know if OLEDs suffer from the "soap opera" effect?

It was my understanding that the "soap opera" effect comes from frame interpolation technologies that add frames between the given frames of a film to smooth out motion. These can be turned off in the settings of the TV so that it only displays the frames from the original source without interpolation.

I do not know as much about plasma's but I think they do not refresh in the way that LCD's do so they do not do motion smoothing like the LCD's can. The tech is really only a way to take advantage of the higher refresh rates of the newer LCD's (for example, my new TV has a 240hz refresh rate) if you so choose.

going from a basic 60 to 120hz, it's life altering.

same as going from 60 to 240hz.

but going from 120 to 240hz, your eyes can't even pick up on it.

I love 120hz/240hz TV's....

Yes, plasmas refresh rate is much faster than an LCD thus no motion blur - that I already knew. Manufacturers responded by making 120 and 240hz to smooth out motion blur but the side effect is the "soap opera" effect. I turn off the 120hz "enhancement" on my 32" Sony LCD but then I get motion blur. Basically, with LCDs, you have to pick your poison. However, I'm curious about OLED technology. Does it suffer from motion blur like LCDs that they'll have to artificially enhance with something like 120/240hz refresh rates?

You can't fault the non-believers. If you've never owned one there is simply no way you could understand.
The TVs on the market today are shit compared to the Kuros.

The authorized Pioneer repair shop that fixed mine (when it had an electrical glitch not allowing it to turn on), said verbatim.

Truth...also a huge DLP fan. No motion blur and truly a great picture with great color reproduction. No wonder cinemas use the technology.

Saw the 80 inch samsung or Sharp at the BMW dealership. My DLP looks better. Watching hockey on it was a constant blurred puck.

Yep, thinking about having D-Nice come and ISF calibrate it.

Lol....I'm an avid AVS guy and I can tell you you're not giving DLP its credit. You didn't realize how great the Kuro still is either.

Your TV is really affordable and having one doesn't make you high end, lol. I've had my 82 inch DLP since 2011 and it cost at least the same as the TV you just bought. Unless you're wall mounting, thin isn't really any big deal.

One of my floor standing speakers and receiver cost more than your TV.

I never stated it was high end.

all I said was that DLP is old tech and looks gross in a living room.

looks like a big box that takes up space.

I much rather have my 75" mounted on my wall......looks cleaner and much classier than a DLP sitting on the carpet or in an "entertainment center" like it's still the 90's......

again, that's trailer park stuff....

Their setup was HD for sure...motion blur will exist in varying degrees in 120hz set ups. Say what you want about DLP, but it doesn't have motion blur.

My DLP is in my media room against a wall on a sleek stand about 18 inches high. Really can't even see it's any thicker than a flat panel. Mounting a TV on a wall and putting a shelving unit right underneath saves no space.

I also got my tv 3 years ago....you just bought yours and act like it's all pimped out for $2500...come on.

Pics of your setup?

Can we raise the conversation up a level and move away from the trailer comments? I never insulted you, until now. Weighing 300 lbs is trailer park stuff, am I right?

At least you're confident, which is good.

I'm simply stating DLP works well, especially for movies and fast motion like sports and gaming. The size admittedly is not as sleek, "new" or sexy, but I guarantee you the picture is every bit as good with even some advantages. Rainbows can be an issue for some and the size are really the only downsides. A properly calibrated DLP with a pure source like blu ray is great and many movie theaters still use digital DLP projectors, because they work well and produce great results.

You have to remember, I got it 3 years ago and it's impossible to stay current at all times. In 3 years, there will be something else for you too.

Dude...my stand looks exactly like that but it's just a little wider to support An 82 inch TV and the TV is on top. I also have my receiver, ps3, ps4, Xbox One, DVR, and Klipsch RC-64 center. Looks just as clean and I have a lot more equipment and cables to run.

You have much simpler setup that looks clean, but no cleaner than my DLP setup because you have a stand underneath the tv. I really need the stand to store all my equipment. You understand since you did the same thing with a much simpler setup.

Apples and oranges anyway. Your living room setup can't be compared to my media room....I have over 400 pounds in 3 speakers and a subwoofer next to my DLPand 4. More speakers on the sides and rear.

I have a 60 inch LED on the wall in the living room, but that works bc I have only my wireless receiver and a simple blu ray. All movies and big games are watched in the media room.
