I test drove a 991.1 GTS and while it definitely made me smile, I didn't get this "I want this" feeling, I found it a little too big and not all that different an experience from my 981S. I know for sure a 458 would give me that feeling but it's just not attainable for me. It may well be that "this will be better" is all I can hope for given my current budget. |

I feel like a slacker with my vehicle ownership. I've only owned 6 vehicles, 3 of which I still have.

The 991 is a fine vehicle but i dunno, it has the same interior as an SUV for god's sake and feels a bit ......... domesticated.

To state the obvious (and already mentioned in this thread), Cayman GT4. It's hard to beat the engineering, reliability, performance and interior of the Cayman S so why not go for the ultimate form?

I've been driving for ~25 years and owned probably 30 cars in that time. 5 in the past year (definitely a record for me and not entirely intended LOL).

My dad was in the same boat as you recently. He couldn't find a modern vehicle better than his E90. Nobody makes such a tactile, fun luxury sport sedan anymore. The closest would be the Alfa Giulia, but one sit inside and you know it's not even built to the standard that E90 was, a car that entered production in 2006. He found himself looking at Porsche like you. Didn't want to spend Panamera type money so had to go with a little SUV. It's amazing to drive, but he always tells me nothing can replace a sedan. He still drives his Bimmer to work half the week as he loves it so much. Basically, for enthusiasts like us, there's becoming fewer and fewer choices. BMW used to occupy that sweet spot between sportiness and luxury but has skewed far toward the latter this decade.

I don't see myself going through cars often as there's only a handful of vehicles I'd personally like to own. Driving dynamics always comes first for me so there's really just the M2, M3/4, Boxster/Cayman, 911, and maybe Giulia. There really aren't any other genuinely sporty cars from luxury brands anymore. When I get older and want something more comfortable my tastes may change.

I was super super close to buying a 2009-2014 cayman s, but ended up snagging my used M2 because I wanted a backseat and the 911 C2S was out of my budget.

Damn, you have me beat! I am only at 23 years of driving. Your first vehicle must have been in the stable for quite some time.

I don't get that concept either, unless a particular car has some serious issues. I am hoping to get a few more enthusiast vehicles under my belt in the coming years assuming ICE vehicles and/or driving are not outlawed in my lifetime. I still need to own something with a V8!

Try a Lotus Elise/Exige. Get one with the sport pack (Elise). You’ll by one as soon as you drive it. Amazing car and anything else would be boring after having driven it.
I’ve had my Exige for almost 13 years. I always wanted a hardcore, stripped out car and it has been an awesome experience. I would never sell this car. You’ll never be able to buy a car like it again. Also after all this time the design has held up quite well. Almost hard to imagine it’s been 13 years. Total driver’s car I would not change one thing about it. Also aftermarket support is much larger than when it first came out. To keep on topic of the Thread title. I always wanted a M3 and finally got the F80. Had to skip on the E46 and E90 because of the Lotus. I feel the F80 is so much better than those two. So fortunate to have the sports car and sports sedan I always wanted. I’m done buying cars except for a daily driver. lol Last edited by shay2nak; 10-30-2019 at 11:46 PM.. |

i used to be so much interested in cars. last ten years everything is tune able and fast. everyone wants to drive suvs that have been stomped on to have dual utility vehicles and cant even change the oil. same thing with pickups; dudes buy them to put straight pipes on and blow smoke everywhere. its a strange car scene out there nowadays. i had a prius "dust" me off a stoplight today; i wasn't pushing it at all and granny shifting. he must have been flooring it; like the fuck???
anyways; i always wanted to change cars. but realized its just a car and im always going to want something else. so just try to appreciate what i got. look at all these M models; and heritage whatevers....the branding team is laughing all the way to the bank |

I mean the m240i is a fun car and has a lot of attributes I like...it just doesn't excite me like cars of the past did...but perhaps I just need to accept those days are gone and move on but to what, gardening? |

These days affordable, well designed and built models are gt4 and gt3. E9x is the last of the "lighter" semi-analog cars that are a great value right now. I was hoping bmw would make high strung na I6 in maybe 3200 lb z4 gtx but they are more interested in building luxury appliances ... |
