I’ve never gelled with the E30 M3. I’ve tried, but to no avail. Way too slow in street trim.
When BMW launched the F80 (non ZCP), i read a piece by Sam Smith where he lapped faster in the new car on PSS than in an E30 touring car on slicks. He loved the feel of the old car, and if I could have one of the actual race cars I’d take it no questions asked, to enjoy the intensity it had in race trim. But the street version is pretty lame to me. No need to bash or contradict, it’s just my opinion. Looking forward to the next episodes...

A modern M2, M3,M4, are weighing in at 1625 kg plus. That is extreem for a drivers car.
BMW must do something on the obisatas side! 950kg car with 330hp is a dream car to put around on race tracks. I know a streetcar can not be this lightweight but 1625kg for an M2 with a competition badge on the boot is also extreme on the negative side! |

DTM roots
I WISH that BMW would simply measure and design a car based directly on the high points and benefits of the e30 m3s winning DTM chassis.
Then build / add a SMALL motor that puts out some crazy power per liter / cylinder Once again. Just Like DTM: "Just two weeks separate us from a new DTM season and this year we'll get to see a lot of big changes happening. The biggest will be the fact that Mercedes-Benz won't be part of it anymore but BMW and Audi are glad to find out what Aston Martin has in store, as the Brits have decided to enter the German competition this year. Furthermore, another big change is to be found under the hood, where we'll get brand new 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engines." Full story here: https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/04/19/b...19-dtm-season/ Cmon BMW... don't just rest on your laurels Try harder ! Scare us ! Otherwise week just have to keep on building our own versions until then.

I've always loved these machines. I'm just afraid if I ever got the nerve to get one as a project car it would be the biggest money pit ever. Too bad.

If only we could get closer to our DTM roots : 5 KEY INNOVATIONS: TO THE BMW M4 DTM 2019 PROGRAM /// 01 Faster: thanks to the new BMW P48 two-litre turbo engine, the BMW M4 DTM reaches speeds of up to 300 km/h. 02 More efficient: the new turbo unit achieves much higher performance with lower consumption from half the capacity, compared with the V8 predecessor model. 03 More exciting: drivers can make use of the Push-to-Pass function at the touch of a button, and with it up to 30 hp more engine power. The result: more overtaking manoeuvres. 04 More spectacular: compared with the 2018 season, the rear wing of the BMW M4 DTM is 520 millimetres wider and makes the BMW M4 DTM appear more aggressive. 05 Leaner: without driver and fuel, the car must weigh in at 981 kg. This is 50 kg less than last season. 981kg ! 🙀

Finally some love for the e36! Once you own one, you'll know why it's special amongst the great M3's.
