Yeah, they're often entirely reversible. The surgeon cuts the vas deferens on each nut and ties the two ends away from each other and they can be reattached later. Sometimes they reattach by themselves actually.

Still unbelievably negligent.

As far as marking the body and signing off on it, the article states that the patient was there for a urological procedure. So it sounds to me like the patient was having another procedure done on his testicles, which would explain why he "signed off" on it (if that's how they work over there).

I'm sure the patient is going nuts over this!

Re-erecting this old thread instead of making a new one.

Pros/cons of a vasectomy? I hear there are laser options? I hate the idea of not being able to lift weights for 10 days - 2 weeks.

Decisions, decisions.

why cut your seed if its not giving you any problem?
if someone else has a problem with it, why become gelded to suit them?

Got mine done on August 1st..so it's been 23 days. Played golf the following Wednesday. I was in discomfort for the first few days but it slowly went away. Went on vacation to Destin, FL 10 days later. I didn't get in the ocean. I cleaned the area twice a day with anti-bacterial soap.

Only tough part was getting numbed. Once all of that was over, it was fine. Just make sure to ice, ice and ice as much as possible. My doctor told me to take Aleve two pills, twice per day for 2 weeks to help with swelling and discomfort. Worked like a charm.

Wish I would of done it sooner. Only cost me $850, which my HSA paid for.

If you are on the fence. Get it. I don't want anymore kids and same with my wife. We have one and she is 7. We do not want to start all over again.

Best of luck!

God and nature made it so Women at a certain point stop being able to have kids. Men, not so much

Men should be potent as much as possible for as long as possible.

I did mine in March 2023. I was back to normal in under a week. It's really not bad. I don't see why you'd be out that long, but I suppose it's possible.

Pros: no more contraceptives or worry of a surprise kid, no more birth control for your wife (mine always hated it)

Cons: none, despite what the dude using terms like "seed" and "gelding" says.

Pros are not accidently having kids, cons would be having it done and changing your mind. Potential reversible but a lot of hassle to go through.

Once this decision is made I think it is only "Pros". If you have decided you don't want kids, taking a few days off of lifting weights seems like a tiny problem compared to potentially 18 years of raising a kid you didn't want. A little discomfort, 10-14 days without lifting weights seems really cautious.

I had it done, I don't understand the original thread, you get a shot for pain, you're awake, doctor is done in 15 minutes at most. Don't understand how he didn't realize what was going on.

I thought it would be an awkward thing to have done but my doctor had been doing it for around 30 years and he worked like he was on an assembly line, quickly done and gone. Getting paid by the job his only goals were doing it quick and correctly. My guess is he had done this thousands of times. From what was done I don't understand how it could be done with a laser and also wouldn't pay a lot more to have it done this way.

I think 'impotent' means you can't get it up. 'Sterile' is what you're looking for.

Actually, since this thread was revived, what goes on in the minds of guys who wanna do this? Is birth control that unreliable or you just wanna go bareback? I personally would never even consider that knife getting anywhere close to me so I'm curious.

Just don't want anymore kids. Plain and simple.

It's actually not that bad. Too much hype about it. Very simple process. I was in and out in 15mins. Numbing was like getting pinched in the arm.

Honestly, nothing to be freaked out about.

Once you decide you don't want to have kids the only "Con" you can come up with is you're scared to have this quick, routine procedure done that is far more reliable than any form of birth control and comes with zero future hassle and cost?

Wives tend to worry about stuff, it's just who they are. One last thing they have to worry about is getting pregnant after 1 miscarriage a c-section and a natural birth that also greatly affected her hormones. Some women spit kids out like no big deal, for others it's a process that carries tremendous weight mentally, emotionally, physically and hormonally.

From what I have been told, by a few trusted friend and as already pointed out, it's a pretty painless procedure. What bugs me out is a week of sitting around. I get stir crazy after 2-3 days of not doing pullups. Working out is as natural as eating dinner for me. I know how foreign that likely seems to some of you.

Also read that you have to ejac like 20 times post op before there is no more swimmers and provide a sample to be sure? I'm just on the fence with all that hassle. I have zero concern with getting my wife pregnant because I'm a pullout master - but she freaks out about it, so I would like to put her mind at ease, which is why I would do it.

Also, we did have a very close fam friend who did get pregnant at 55 and several friends who got preg with a 4 child who were also "done," so the thought def bugs my wife out.
Glad she's not on birth control anymore. We do use condoms, but man that gets old over time of course.

I can handle 1 week.... but were you working out after 1 week or just not in pain?

My wife was also pushing me to get it done, partly because she believed taking birth control forever isn't good for woman (I don't know), partly because of hassle, cost, and birth control not being 100%.

For the "20 times" This just means you can't trust it to have taken effect for while so you have to keep doing whatever you are doing now. Can't call this a hassle, you continue on as you are doing today.

For the "sample", I was happy to see that this meant my wife could take the small jar "sample" and drop it off at the doctors office. She was happy to do it and quickly agreed.

You keep going back to the working out, seems really minor to me compared to you and her worrying about the potential pregnancy for many years.

Fair points. I'm probably just looking for reasons not to go through with it, if I'm being honest. I'll have to go super hard in the gym for several months and just earn a 1 week break - easy enough. But I am wondering how long until after the procedure before I can deadlift 350+ lbs for 10 reps again
