soo..I'm a complete noob when it comes to wedding/engagement rings.....what is the average range for a ring?? I know this is kinda personal but I just want to know what I will be up against...lol. My friend told me he was dropping 10K on one and I thought he was out of his damn mind. I guess I was wrong?

The band alone for me cost close to 1 month salary. I was somewhat lucky as I didn't have to buy the diamond. My mom left me hers when she passed. Although if I had to chose I would rather her back and paid for the diamond myself

girls seem to like rings with diamonds around them.....I did something like this for my wife http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-enga...-platinum_7815
Whatever you get you could have always went bigger, etc. Is actually gross to watch girls sit around and admire them, but I suppose we do the same with our cars. |

There is at least one company that specializes in reducing deceased pets to carbon and creating diamonds from the remains.

I think you need to double the size now and suck it up or she will drive you nuts forever wanting a bigger ring. Then you will be out the 10K you spend when you have to replace it is 5 years with one that cost 20K plus inflation.

If they have a walk-in store, look at the diamond yourself. Look at the stone with your naked eye, and with the jeweler's loop. If you can't see the inclusions with your naked eye, it's perfect (or too perfect), and you can save some money by going cheaper.
Carry that GIA description to other jewelery stores in the area, and look at comparable stones, and compare prices. Most jewelery stores could match that diamond exactly. Look into Costco stones (yes, Costco sells diamonds). They will ship the stone to a local Costco for you to look at. Compare with Blue Nile prices, online. Edit - Of course, going larger with more inclusions should be considered. I bought my wife a nearly flawless stone, and wasted money. Should have gone larger, with more inclusions. It's the size that counts to most women. At the time, I was obsessed with perfection (I've since grown up), justifying my choice. |

Expensive setting and stone. For 1 carat, you should be able to get into the $6K range or so. My 1.01 was $4900, G color, VS1, round about 3 years ago.
Beautiful setting, but I'd highly suggest a 4 pronger, as the 6 tends to block a lot more light. The fire is generated by light entering through the bottom and sides, and refracting out the top, so you'll get more "bang for your buck" in the way of sparkle if you go 4. They should be able to modify the setting (and not charge you) so you can still have the very nice design you've shown. One final note, even a VS1 stone could have a pretty unfavorable blemish, based on it's location alone. Even a small feather or inclusion, barely visible to the naked eye, could be located in a very unfavorable spot where it impacts more light than a stone with even more inclusion. spend lots of time looking through a selection of similarly priced stones, and try to get one with the blemish, however minute, closest to the edge and away from the center. Overall, looks like you've got a very lucky lady. Last edited by AWD Addict; 05-21-2008 at 11:39 AM.. |

DeBeers and their lobby are working hard to prevent these from hitting the market, and are attacking their claim to be "diamonds" as they are man made as that would obviously utterly destroy the racket they're running with controlling supply to maintain price levels. CZ has gone the way of the dodo. |

It's about Identical to my wife's set. Been 14 years and it's held up great.
Only advice I can offer is that blowing $10k on an engagement ring is folly. Regardless of income the stones become too big and gaudy... FWIW.

Scandalous tramps are always chasing a bigger payoff. A lady that loves you doesn't really give two shits about the ring other than it should be pretty and wearable. If you've got a women all hung up on the size or how much her ring cost? You are Fucked, Pure and Simple... Join the French foreign legion or simply escort her off property cause she's too shallow to actually love and will be curled up with the next bigger better deal that comes down the road. Driving a BMW most of you will have seen the beginnings of this melodrama already. Hell, just look at the groupies that show up here and on other forums looking for a fool.

I better be able to give my future wife a ring made out of paper clips, and know that she will marry me either way. Quote:
I would rather go 1ct and as perfect as possible, because then it would mean something to me. If I skimped to go bigger, I would feel like a fake. Quote:
