My 6 year old daughter's school is closed that day for it. They are saying it will be too dark for them to operate. lol.

One day there will be electricity to solve such problems. For now there is an Eclipse Day.

School districts probably worried about liability situations if a kid looks at it because that is where we are as a society now.

I know a lot of the school districts here will close school the next day if it's "projected" we are supposed to get a few inches of snow. 99.9% of the time we don't get anything the next morning. Kinda nuts if you ask me. When I was in high school, even middle school...we never ever got school cancelled. There could be 8inches of snow on the ground and we still had to go in. Different times that's for sure.. Anyways, back on topic. Not sure if I will go out and look. My home office has a lot of windows so I will just peep out and see. I know there are meet up groups and they are all making merch for it...good lord. lol

We were in the path in 2017 and in the 95+ range this time. Mixed feeling - the company I worked for sold and it was finalized ON the eclipse day (we had a party in the parking lot with BBQ and glasses for everyone) but within 2 months I knew the new owners were not for me and turned in my notice - so not a great memory for me.
The ring of fire was amazing. First one I had ever seen. I can drive like 2 hours south and be in 100% again, but I don't think I will. Traffic will be insane. I'm trying to find it, but a photo buff of mine sit up a camera and had it snapping pics every X time and in one of the pics she perfectly caught a jet airliner ring in the eclipse window passing exactly over the sun. Very cool pic but I can't seem to find it......... Edit - found it.

I really wish I could make it out to see this. I was lucky to be in the path in 2017. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. We had just under a minute of totality. I'll never forget how surreal it was leading up to 100%. The lack of light and temperature drop was really cool. I witnessed it in a remote part of Oregon and even there the traffic out was mad.

Our local Library was handing out free glasses. The eclipse will be right on top of us. Best seat in the house at home.

We have a few counties here in Texas that have declared a state of emergency and quite a few school districts closing down... The annular eclipse back in Oct was really cool and looking forward to seeing this. Not sure the shutdowns and states of emergency are completely necessary though...

Ours was showing the same in MO - but now showing sunny - so who knows! Weather has been changing a lot this spring and shifts by a few days all the time.

I'll be flying from Denver to Memphis and should be crossing over Arkansas during totality.

In the meantime, watch the night skies after sunset and prior to Jupiter setting for the 12P Pons/Brooks Comet (here last night @2100):

Does anyone know what the flat earthers are saying about this event? Bit of housekeeping or something (cleaning the big lamp bulb in the sky?)

Not looking good weather wise in Dallas.
I can feel the hordes arriving. Gas has gone up literally like $.40 since we got here on Wednesday. From what I’ve read no other better options driving distance. Plus I have a feeling roads will be a nightmare. |

Terre Haute is booked. We won't be going there. We can drive south about 25 minutes and be in a 100% area with a 1-1/2 minute totality. Plenty of places to set up there. But so far it's looking to be mostly cloudy. The NASA site says 90% cloud cover, but the local weather apps are predicting cloud cover in the 60-60% range. Might still be worth going just in case the skies clear up a bit around eclipse time. That happened here once during a lunar eclipse where it was cloudy to start, but cleared out for a while right around the full eclipse.

2017-2024, how accurate is that going to be... are you going by how many marigolds are blooming or how many of your cows will be mooing ?
Michael Fish would disagree |

What is the big deal actually? Sky darkens for a minute or so? (srsly questions and I don't wanna bother googling haha) I'm in the 99% zone.
