There is very much merit in that approach. But:

"In fact, the researchers found that a generous act by one person could inspire generosity in someone three degrees removed from them, showcasing how a single person can influence dozens or perhaps hundreds of people in their social network, including those they have never met. "

Like said in a past thread, "...If I can influence one person to give blood, then this post is worth it."

(And yes, I hate virtue signaling!)

Payin' it forward (although I have never needed a transfusion)!
I give "double reds" because that's what they want.

OP (Tommy):

To take the one-upmanship out of things, maybe this thread can be renamed something like, "Paying it Forward in Small Ways".

You know, things that won't get us into heaven, but won't hurt to do anyway?

Of course. That's probably the most iconic way to pay it forward IMO.

Ha! I just saw your above posts. Wow, gallon club. Well done.

Apparently 1 hard boiled egg and a cup of coffee 3 hours prior to giving blood is not a hardy breakfast. I was completely fine 4/5’s of the way through. Then came the nausea, the claminess, the sweating. It was not glamorous. Both my friends started well after me (10-15 minutes or so) and filled their two bags of blood before me.

I also guessed at my weight. Apparently I don’t weigh 110 lbs. I thought I did. Nevertheless, I did it and I’ll do it again.

And I wore red as a coincidence yesterday!

Well done Sara! I wish they would take my blood... too much time in the UK in the 80's so they think I might carry mad cow disease.

I thought some of the questions on the prescreening were a bit much.

Yeah, more coffee....
You need & deserve a big steak, cooked in an iron frying pan! (did they mention your iron number?)

Now that I do double reds I am at the machine's speed, & I can't try to race anyone.

PS: Nice pants!

Ha! I wish. I felt so exhausted by the time I got home, I ate a bowl of cereal and was in bed and asleep by 20:30.

I try to make everything a competition, who can donate the most the fastest, yeah I didn't win. I was doing fine and then it's like I just stopped pumping. I'm going to try to be faster next time.

Where on your donor portal does it show your iron? I'm pissed that my BP reading yesterday was 110/90. Someone who looks like me shouldn't have such high pressure. I have a fucked up heart.

They check iron in the finger prick & will say if you are low on Iron, but I always ask.
Blood with high iron is prized. They said mine would be used that afternoon because of my level.

Gotcha. We should start a blood donation thread. Which member can donate the most. I think it's a win win for everyone.

I started one a few years back,: "They Want Your Blood!"
I swear the moderators, in their wisdom, got rid of it....

It's crazy that they won't take my blood, because insulin-dependent. Perma-banned

I could come in with my blood sugars around 300, and whomever got my blood wouldn't even need an additional IV

They are afraid of harming ME, not the recipient.

I didn't have an overly privileged childhood; Nobody gave me a car for HS, or even after!
So I had to build my own. Sometimes they didn't work well, & left me stranded. For instance, many a time I had to stand on the side of the road waving jumper cables, hoping for a good samaritan to stop & help me.

Now, I be the man on the block with the jumper box. I jump them, put air in their tires, push them out of the snowbank, etc. No charge, no questions.
