All 3 are of no interest to me and sales have not been going well for Lucid or Rimac.

EVs are here to stay....period. Now that we got that out of the way, so is the big rock in my backyard but I'll never drive that either.

Fixed it for you.

Jokes aside, EVs have ruined the car scene. They've made acceleration such a commoditized thing that everything is stupid fast. My not top spec X5 rips off a sub 4 second 0-60. When everything is crazy fast, it makes it less special to go fast.

I've become much more interested in "experience" cars lately. Stuff that's engaging tomdrove rather than just fast. Manual transmissions, interesting engine types, great sounds, that sort of stuff.

Well, I have actually owned a Lucid Grand Touring and that thing was faster than I ever needed or really wanted. It was much faster than my BMW M5, no contest. It was the same exterior size as the M5 and the same interior room as my BMW 7-series. It was actually the most fun I have ever had driving a car. Every day was like a ride at Disney.

I would still own the car if it wasn't for the charging network across the southeast. The car was the most comfortable car I have ever owned. I had no problems with it after the first month. Every problem I had was fixed on-site, in my garage.

There was no reason Lucid or the car itself ever gave me for not keeping it.

Purists have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that 99% of people just want cheap thrills, so straight-line accel is going to rule from these days and forward, given the ability of electric motors.

I have no interest in such cars. Pushing a go-pedal an letting the car control the torque based on tire grip and run off a super low 0 to XXX time is a bit boring IMO. There is no art to it.

And yes gbandsten, I had a sub-4-second CBR1000 back in 1992, so I've been there and done that.

My last M5 was sub-4. It is the Sub 2.3 seconds that is fun as hell. It's just on another level. The car also is fun on highway sweepers (when traffic is minimal and safe to do so) and I've enjoyed its handling as along the same lines as my M5. I'm not comparing the two for track use. Just everyday fun.

I'd argue that 90% of people just want cheap. That's why the Model Y sells so well, it's priced the same as like a Ford Edge, and you don't have to buy gas anymore. There's also a small subsection of people who think that ownina Tesla is afmscy, so in their eyes they're getting a BMW for below Ford money.

EVs main advantage right now is the totally unlimited power they're allowed to produce. I suspect that will be highly restricted in the future, with something akin to anti "electron guzzler" regulations put in place. They'll argue that the higher powered vehicles are unsafe, wear roads faster, create more tire particulate emissions, and require more fossil fuels for charger or something.

I think if we had no rules limited the emissions and economy of ICE cars, you'd see the same performance from ICE cars as you do EVs. So then it'd be a battle of instant torque vs much lower weight. That would be much more interesting.

All that said, just under 4 seconds 0-60 is where I've found peace. I don't really need to go faster than that. Frankly, I think my next purchase will be an E39 M5, which is in the 5s to 60. It not being that fast won't bother me for a second.
