Maybe they can replicate manual on electric car somehow…that would be a world wonder!

Not looking forward to electric m3 at all

Not what M is about
They filed the patent- maybe a manual just selects torque to a computer. Interesting how one could manually select power. It’s no different than manual gear selection maybe?

Would be pretty amazing to have a six speed hybrid setup and I would hope with BMW's resources, they would. Hell, look at the Z4 manual as proof that fun cars still exist.
If they do decide to make the M3/4 ZF8 only, then the G87 & Z4 are the only last fun cars left in the lineup, yikes.
I dont think anyone thought the manual M3 would survive this generation. The take rate is extremely low even though everyone says they want one.

Why put that much effort in when no one is buying the manual now?

and? it comes to a point where it will impact the sporty feel of driving no matter what they do to the suspension or tire width.

porsche has kept their gt3s light. weight gain has been pretty minimal compared to m3s over the years, and it shows. nothing comes out of a corner like a porsche.

Smart play by BMW to fund both versions and let consumers decide. As always, I’ll reserve judgement until I drive them. Until then I’ll continue to enjoy the S58 driving experience.

To be fair, they did force buyers to give up AWD and ~100 ft lbs if they wanted a stick. Kind of a dick move.

I think because at the end of the day- there may be a small faction of enthusiasts that still engineer over at bmw.

I think if they added awd to current ice manuals- it would draw another crowd bmw is overlooking as well.

Where are you getting this info from? Because F series M3/4 was 40% manual take rate, F87 was over 50%, G87 is over 50%. Pretty sure the manual G80/2 is fairly high too, not 50% high, but high enough to justify keeping it.

It's only that high in the US, unfortunately not enough. You need a lot more of those globally to build a business case

Less than 48lbs of additional weight for 48V battery system, should be palatable

2025 - “ BMW Executive shocked to discover that Porsche can raise the price of its GT3 touring by $50,000 per year and still sell out because it has all of the features that enthusiasts want - weight management, a manual transmission, and lovely viewing angles”.

Also, dealers hear "manual M3" and get hella greedy. Forget about a discount, they tell you they don't know when it'll come in, there may be markups, etc etc etc.

They'd sell a hell of a lot more of them if BMW and their dealers weren't both sabotaging them.

In the mean time, E39 M5s keep getting more expensive because as it turns out, some people want a nicely sized manual sport sedan.

Sounds like it’ll be the 48V hybrid already being used elsewhere in the lineup. It won’t weigh that much and will also provide some nice torque fill on the S58. I’m looking forward to seeing the spy shots.
