well, after prada started to make their shoes in china i stopped buying them
i work in the automotive industry... we (tech department) take pride in innovation, high quality precision parts and craftsmanship - however lately parts are being outsourced to china - and parts "they" have outsourced to chinese plants are simply crap... sad everything has to go downhill for the profit of a few scumbags

... and consumer confidence will remain high, even as those advantages fade -- including the price premium, which has now completely disappeared with the iPhone and is negligible with the iPad and lower laptops.

On what drive-able, non-urban roads? Maybe BMW can run a rally along the top of the Great Wall?

I know. And that has not been a problem for Apple because consumer electronics is something the Chinese were already proficient at making when Apple set up shop and oversight there.
Heavy goods is a whole 'nuther ballgame, kemosabe.

Built in China doesn't mean the build quality is bad. Assuming BMW still use the same materials, parts, and technology to build the vehicles, I don't see any build quality issue there. All BMW needs are proper training to their factory plant workers, which is same as in Germany, US, and SA.

Yes, some Chinese auto companies lacks experience will make less quality cars. But this is BMW. U think same training, material and equipment, Chinese workers are dumber than South Africans? Americans(for x suv)? Did u see reports that Chinese made BMW fails regularly? Much worse than South African counterparts? Have you tried living with one? What is you source for Chinese built BMW will fail worse than Other factories? Or is this jus your imagination and stereotyping? Please research before you trash talking someone or something. Do you think BMW is dumb enough to open factories in China and export now if quality is not on par?

I highly doubt we will see any of these cars imported. BMW has enough customers in China.

I'll take it one step further: This is even the case with military hardware, including missile systems, aircraft, and ground armor. Even to third-world countries, China is still a 'supplier of last resort' for that kind of stuff. And one step further, still: Another country, India, has the exact same reputation. It also can manufacture some of the highest-grade electronics in the world, but it can't even build a bicycle for sale-able Western export. Look: I'm sure things are getting better. But as I stated before with the Japanese as an example, it takes time -- as well as a willingness to conform its own cultural standards as applied to manufactured goods to satisfy other world markets. One country that has done this to amazing effect recently: South Korea, which is now considered the greatest shipbuilding nation on Earth, among other distinctions. China has a long, long, long way to go.
