Well said. These problems happened before and will happen again in the future. Getting in front of these problems and working closely with the suppliers to improve the component in question is the right recipe. So BMW deserves plenty of credit.

Does BMW use ThyssenKupp, JTEKT & ZF as suppliers for steering racks?

As an alternative to bringing to the dealer, can one use Bimmercode or Bimmerlink to find out which EPS system is in their vehicle?

I have a 2022 330i & I always thought I had this EPS in my car, per the service advisor:

https://www.zf.com/products/en/cars/products_64259.html

Thanks for any input!

ThyssenKrupp makes the Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank. I'm sure their M2 steering mechanism is up for the job.

I hear this on my F95 and I thought I was the MSS HAS all along. Going to ask about it when I go in for service.

An SIB is just information. May not even apply to your personal vehicle. Good luck finding out you’ll have more week by week….

I am actually so happy right now. I am one of those g20 owners that has been complaining for 3 years about this issue. Mostly prevalent in hot weather. There were suggestions it was the tie rods but never anything concrete to show my “could not replicate” dealer. I really hope this solves it!

Does not surprise me. Personally I have noted quality control issues and defects in a quite a few (a lot) of products and goods I’ve purchased in last couple years. Service has suffered too for that matter. What happened?. Hmmm…Oh yea… the entire world changed.

I had a clunking noise a couple years ago after an alignment and the dealer later replaced the tie rod which resolved the issue. I guess I need to listen for the issue again.

Noticed this in my G20 M340i; happened when almost at full lock on either side. Its dead now, but glad to know I wasn't crazy.

You know them most for elevator manufacturing, but they have over 800 entities in their corporate structure and in the manufacturing industry are known for much more complex and intricate components than elevators. In fact, they started as the merger of two big steel companies and in the industry are least known for their elevators. Just have high consumer visibility of elevators given how often we use them.

Also, this post was not meant to be a dick post at your comment, but more so something that I learned as well when my practice shifted deep into manufacturing.

Same. As a supplier to them and other Tier 1’s of automotive components/systems, I’ve learned many huge companies have vast amounts of divisions that one would never know unless you do a deep dive into each.

Do we have any access to the example vids, my 23 g07 has some odd sounds on the driver side that I was told were “normal” and been trying to get to the bottom of it.

Have noticed this in my G82. Crank the wheels to lock on either side and start to roll and it clunks / jolts a bit.

The G87 is essentially a G42 + G80 mashup (like a Best Of album) so 99% of any quality control issues will be well and truly sorted in this car. This recall affects all models that share this part, it's not G87 specific. Bring it on I say!
