With reading just the title to the thread, I'm going to just say no, I don't care what the circumstances are. It's a great way to end a friendship doing stuff like that.

EDIT: Just read your post. If you want to help him, help him get a job.

Def do not buy him another car!
It would just be enabling his lack of drive, laziness, whatever the case may be.
He's old enough now to be able to make his own life decisions or mistakes.

Gents, we are being proactive. It's eight years later and any minute, the OP will chime in again about needing to purchase his friend another car.

The answer is still no.

Awesome mods. Amazing mods. He had BMW call him to talk about his mods.
Look, he's donea lot of mods over the years and he knows how they work. When people are loooking to mod their cars, they don't ask BMW, Obama or China, they ask him. Let's make modding great again.

Previous owner never replied back to my message. Hit me up 305-992-7512 by text and I'll shoot you pics as I can't post on here for some dumb reason.

That is so deflating...if you want I can call that number and ask him...I'm pretty good at getting down to the point.

I don't have the previous owner's number as I FB messaged him last week. I plan on visiting my Indy by next Saturday to go over the car and I'll know some answers.

I really wouldn't do it. I remember an incident that happened a few years ago with an Wide body kit Porsche.

I really wouldn't do it. Not because I'm an ass, it's more the fact if the car would be an P.O.S. and causes alot of trouble for your friend in the long run.
...don't do it...

I've got a similar friend who just can't seem to get it together. I helped him buy a place about 5 years ago but it was only about 5 grand to "help out" and I had the extra so I didn't hurt myself to do it. It made a big difference for him and he got things together a little bit better after that. I would say that if you are that close to this guy buy a car but rent it to him at a low monthly rate that he can afford till he pays it off. If he can't handle that, just take the car back and sell it. That would help him out of his current situation, make you feel like you did something to help, and enable him a little less than just giving him a car.
Make sure you do some kind of loan or rent to own contract if the car is that much of an expense. Just a thought.

Yer a good man.. why not just let him take care of his issues by himself and step in when he really needs help & falls down a few rather than actively supporting him?
That way its more surprise help when its needed as opposed to an entitlement he will be expecting.

Epic Thread Revival Part #2

Okay - this thread was revived once before, so thought what the heck, let's do it again! So I took the advice of the forum and didn't buy him a new car. Instead, I helped him get a job. Fast forward a couple of years and he's been working full time, has his life on a better track, and bought himself a *new* car!

Thanks to everyone still around for the advice - it worked out.

So he’s about 47 now? Good think he’s working full-time. Now, about his retirement savings...
