Sensationalism get views, there's no way around it.
I'm sure we can all remember the riots in Portland in 2020. If you listened to the media, the entire city was engulfed in a Purge-esque level of violence and mayhem. I worked downtown during that time in the Federal Building which happened to be right next to ground zero of the riots. What the media didn't tell you is that 1. It primarily took place in a 3x1 block area, 2. It only happened at night. I would walk by the area to get lunch and it was completely normal (except for the barricades). Go a few blocks in any direction and you would have had no idea that anything different was happening. When people find out I'm from Portland, they still bring it up to this day. "How did you survive the riots". Lol, I just stayed away from the small area after dark for a few weeks.

Born and raised in NY,30mins North of NYC. Spent 50yrs living there, moved out when covid hit. Used to hang in NYC all the time in the 80s,little bit less in the 90s,hardly ever from 2000 on..theres certain parts of Brooklyn,Queens,Harlem that you'd be lucky to make it out unscathed or alive right now. Hang out long enough on Billionaires Row and you'll see some homeless dude pissing on the side of a building or taking a dump on the sidewalk. Forget about Times Square As a tourist visiting NYC for a few days or a week you're not getting the full NYC experience. Fact I'll just leave this here, the M5 owner sfrom NYC says NY is a shithole lol: https://nypost.com/2024/05/08/us-new...-for-150k-bmw/

We did take the Subway a few times but spent a fair amount taking Uber's walking around various parts of Manhattan. Tribeca, Lower East Side, Upper West Side. I didnd't see any homeless people for the most part. There are pockets of bad areas in every urban metro...if anything, your point proves nothing. |

I've never lived in NYC but visited many times. I've had good and bad experiences but generally they were positive if you maintain situational awareness.
Not sure if this correlates but we live in midtown Houston and it's generally a shit hole homeless camp unless there's an event or election then they clean the place up. Note: we had a huge bum riot down the road from us which means no going outside the building. Just sit on the balcony with a cigarette and quietly observe.

I think that BIMMERPOST's policies regarding political/religious posts is pretty clear from the sticky note from Jason at the top of the OT section:
https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1753661 Personally, I would not want to draw the ire of the moderators, since banned camp is a lonely place (as a few frequent/regular members here can attest).....

I can see how if folks have low expectations, Manhattan can seem to them like a clean and safe place. Just compare 5th Ave with 5th Ave in Naples, FL. Now, that other 5th is spanking clean and rich. Every 3rd car there is a Bentley.

this is just too much. I can't believe they were saying all of downtown Portland was on fire and being occupied by local communist terrorists. How do those people sleep at night? |

Right or left, news should not be accepted as fact. We live in an age where even video can be created. The news media counts on clicks and extreme opinions and edited videos create clicks and to corporate media, that is goal. Truth is that most of us agree on basic issues but we often disagree on how to address those issues and the media has no interest in the conversation. |

I don’t think I’ve seen petty fighting like this since the good ole Poltics threads.
The two of you are a prime example of why we can’t get shit right. Grown adults slinging mud and can’t respect what the other person says even if you disagree. Keep on fighting to try and prove each of you is right and the divide grows greater. |
