I saw it sitting in the back and was like NO WAY whose is this. turned out they forgot to give it to me back then and later thought they gave it to me and because I never hung it up they just put it in storage. crazy right! |

Industry feedback
First off, disclaimer. I'm the owner the company that makes "those custom Ferrari Chairs", we also build the OMP office chairs and are a reseller of Recaro and Pininfarina office chairs.
The biggest response we hear to these chairs most often is "that's way overpriced, get this, it's cheaper". 1. Price is relative, if you can afford a $50-$80k+ car for your daily or weekend use, you're spending a ridiculous amount for a few hours of driving pleasure. On the otherhand, you're spending 8+ hours a day, 5 days a week sitting in your $200 office depot office chair? Maybe $2,000 isn't so much money for something that's going to get so much use. If you work at a desk, consider your chair one of your tools, just as you would your computer. 2. Furniture companies spend tens of thousands of dollars on research and development of new models and designs. The Recaro seats on the otherhand have millions spent in research, it's their only business. The Herman Miller Aeron/Mirra/Embody chairs aren't event designed inhouse, they're sent out to Studio 7.5 Berlin designers. Recaro's OE business of supplying seats that last 100,000+ miles, can withstand the forces of an accident and provide a comfortable and supportive seating option for car passengers is funded by their OE customers like Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini. These development costs, and extensive production process are the reason their seats cost $1500-$2500 each in the aftermarket, and sometimes much more in the OE options. Yes, there are other companies making something similar and offering it at a much lower price, but then again there's been a Hyundai or two that looked just like a BMW or MB, but it's not the looks that matter; it's the performance and build quality/process, etc. Automotive seats as an office chair are a pretty bad business decision, there are very few people that want/need the level of quality and comfort they offer at the price point they cost to produce. For those select few however, they will last the lifetime of your office experience, and be just as comfortable the day you bought it as the day you retire in it. Somethings to consider when looking for your own office chair that we usually talk through with our customers: -Comfortable in a car isn't necessarily comfortable in the office. Racing shells and sport options are made to hold you in place while spirited driving, you want some movement while sitting at a desk. Buy it because of the fit, not because it looks cool; no one can see your chair when you're sitting in it working! -Start with your waist and shoulder width and choose your model options based on that. -What is your usage like? Sit with perfect posture or lean back and slouch? Do you get up/down alot or sit for 8 hours straight? Do you cross your legs, sit on a leg, or shift around alot? Do you have hardwood floors or carpeting? Do you prefer soft and cushy or firm and supportive? For material: Do you eat/drink in it ? Do you wear a suit or jeans? What's the average office temperature? In the end, you get what you pay for. The chairs we sell range in price from $1300-$15,000, but the cost is based on the actual seat being used. "Look alike" seats don't use quality foam, fabric stretches and tears, plastic componets in the frame crack and break, balance is off and they topple over, etc, etc. Don't buy it because it looks cool, sit in it somewhere and really pay attention to the details and quality of the componets. Now my personal addition to this thread. Owning the company and having access to any chair I want (as well as testing everything out there), I use a 997 Porsche GT3RS seat as my daily chair. In 2 years, the foam has never "broken in" and it still looks brand new (i'm in front of a desk 10+ hours a day). -Ron |

i think those herman miller chairs are really uncomfortable, heres my chair(design within reach). i guess it depends how much you spend sitting on it, if you just want your office to look cool with a recaro chair that would be cool, but if you really spend any long period of time you should get a proper chair.

The Aeron is over-rated IMO. I'm sitting in one right now as I type this. If you want to be comfy, get a swopper.

Also, check out Global, although I can't speak to their ergonomics or comfort, we contract them to produce our lower bases in our own chairs. After extensive research, we picked them due to their quality of design, materials, functionality and durability. http://www.globaltotaloffice.com |

This looks like a pretty badass chair
http://www.globaltotaloffice.com/gi_...?record_id=407 Ya, he makes a good point when he says that you spend 8 hours in your chair, each day.

I admit I spend my money on a lot of stupid useless shit but the day I spend a G on an office chair is the day I get retard tattooed across my forehead.

I have a $50 fake leather chair from walmart. My ass sticks to it when I "get busy". My back hurts from sitting on it all day. This thread is depressing the crap out of me.

You spend the majority of your life 1. in bed 2. in your office chair 3. in your car. Don't chince on those three and you'll live a much better life.

you could make one. go to the junkyard and find some old recaro or other branded seat. buy a cheap office chair and take the base and hydraulic thing and drill it into the bottom of the seat. of course some other modifications should be required but i think this should work out fine.
