Pickleball LA28 FTW, baby!

Yes it's a sport, especially when compared to the ones you can drink beer and smoke cigarettes while playing (bowling, darts, pool, almost with ping pong). Debate all you want about the level of physical exertion it requires, not part of the qualifications of "sport".

He's fine. Not sure why he abandoned us. He's active on Facebook. His birthday was this weekend.

Who cares? That's like saying beginners aren't allowed to play on the tennis courts or that you are only allowed to play proper tennis with proper rules etc. Fuck that. If I have a racquet and a ball and I'm not interfering with other peoples game I will do whatever I want with the tennis court. Don't like it build your own private court.

PS: I don't play tennis or pickle ball or any of that. As far as I'm concerned they could knock down all the stupid courts and plant trees.

^This. Just like many sports such as tennis, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc., there are many different levels of play such as recreation up to highly competitive with real money at stake.

Yes, doubles pickleball doesn't require a ton of movement or explosiveness, but it's a great sport for the 40+ crowd, especially prior tennis players. The key to staying in shape as you get older is to KEEP MOVING. Pickleball is great for that.

Pickleball singles can be really competitive. Those that say pickleball isn't a "sport" would be running circles and would be gassed trying to keep up with a competitive singles player.

I have a number of good friends that are extremely good tennis players including one that is a tennis pro and they absolutely love and respect pickleball. None of them say it's not a real sport.

I've had people tell me that volleyball isn't a real sport because you don't sweat. I guess if you're playing around with a group of people at your church picnic, then yeah, not much of a sport. Otherwise, good luck keeping up with me and the folks I play with and better get your hands ready because you might just get a concussion, broken nose or finger, or black eye on an attack or top spin serve coming at you at 50-60mph.

I guess you missed the memo.

Pickleball is taking OVER tennis courts across the country...they are literally knocking down tennis courts in order to build pickleball courts.

Probably because tennis is a dying sport in the US and most tennis courts have sat empty for decades now. I played tennis in the 1980s through to the early 2000s. The amount of people playing has dwindled dramatically and public courts are severely underutilized. Pickleball is extremely popular so a lot of tennis courts are being repurposed. That's the reality.

Show me where it’s a dying sport. Everything I see is it’s growing 30% YOY.

Almost 40M play pickleball now where as around 24M play tennis in the US. In Kansas City, tennis is dead. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, most public courts were occupied in the late afternoons and evenings. Since the late 1990s, public courts have sat largely vacant. Not until public works started repurposing the courts during the COVID years for pickleball did they become utilized again. I've seen the same in FL, GA, and SC as well. Tennis used to be huge in those states, now tennis has a taken a huge back seat to tennis.

Why leave tennis courts empty when so many want to play pickleball now? Two tennis courts can house four pickleball courts. Next to golf, there really isn't any other sports available to the 40+ crowd and that crowd wants to play pickleball. Majority rules.

We messaged in November 2022 (I was also a bit worried). He confirmed that he was OK again. But MIA since Spring 2023 over here on BP.

You'll need to provide one or more links to reliable sources for that assertion to be taken seriously.
