Wait staff need tips to earn even close to a decent wage. Most wait staff (and I'm not talking about career waiters in NYC or LA at posh places) are unskilled and are either working through school, trying to help their spouse make ends meet, or trying to feed their kids. I'll be first in line to bash the lazy welfare culture, but if someone is trying the least I can do it throw in a few extra bucks. As far as I'm concerned it's just part of the price of dining out.

I agree with Ledzep, tipping is part of eating out. However, I hear people I work with(teachers) that bartend or wait tables ob weekends and they complain about people that tip 20-25% calling them cheap. Expecting to make any type of decent money bringing food back and forth from a kitchen to a table is rediculous-women have been doing it for free for over 300 years.
It is an honest living, but lets face it-the only waitresses who make good tips are good looking or overly pleasant, which is fine, but don't act like its a hard job. You are basically being someone's bitch which most people skilled or over 25 will just refuse to do. |

Going back to the original question (which was the service advisor) as people has told you, tipping is not customary. Nevertheless, an alternative would be to bring something like a box of donuts to give to the techs (not the service advisor) which create some good blood to start with.

I would recommend not tipping the service advisor..
And yes I do tip at restaurants. Better service, better tip..Simple as that

I take my car into a different dealer than where I bought my car, so I don’t get a loaner when my car goes in. They do however drive me where I need to go and pick me up. It’s not usually far, maybe 10 minutes. I haven’t tipped the driver before, but feel that I should. Any thoughts?

Box of donuts is a great idea ! Thanks ! I am going to have to be carefull with the words so he doesn't think I am getting them just for the X5 (which I really want as a loaner) . I honestly am not doing it for the X5, I just like to have good first impressions...

And to all you Mr. Pink's out there... you are cheap a$$es. I hope you enjoy the luge in your meals. If you are cheap I guarantee you already had a few whether you realize it or not. It doesn’t matter what lame excuses you have for not tipping or low tipping. If you can afford the kinds of cars we drive you should be able to pony up a couple extra bucks for those hard working, minimum hourly wage folks that are trying to make an honest living. |

But generally tipping is not required, and you shouldnt start the trend, bcoz we dont like it to be a norm. ok! ...now on the other aspect, I occasionally have tipped the lower staff guys who washes my car when I bring it in just for a wash! this is an incentive for them to take a little good care of my car, while I watch them bring it in the wash bay, dry it and vacuum it. I figure 2 dollars is a great deal for a free car wash!

I used to work in a repair shop, doing oil changes and the like.
The customers who tipped got WAY better service. For best results, tip the mechanic PRIOR to the service. |

Well, here's a bit of trivia for ya.
Tip stands for To Insure Promptness. In ye old days, there was a basket on the wall of ye old inn and how much you put in it dictated how much service you saw. Somehow, the tip now comes after the service, but rest assured it is STILL BEFORE the next service. I waited tables and bartended for about eight years. Good tippers get better service, stronger drinks, and even freebies. |

Yeah donuts or something of that nature are great because then the next time you come they will make sure that you are a very happy customer. My boyfriend said that there are some people that bring in muffins, or cookies, and stuff.
