We recently moved to a significantly more rural home and had set up HughesNet because it was all that was available.
We were downgrading from gigabit fiber so the transition was shocking to say the least. I worked from home before covid do wasn’t sure how it was all going to work out. HughesNet ended up being completely unusable and unreliable. I honestly thought we were going to have to move, then I found t mobile internet while going down the fixed wireless rabbit hole. Lo and behold we are eligible. It has been game-changing fantastic and we now will stay in our current house. Speeds around 50-80 mbps, streaming multiple devices. I was paying 3x price for Hughesnet and getting average 700 kb/s with only 30 gigs allowable prime time data, I would burn through that in a few days for work EDIT: I think I had a data leak or something. Always showed huge usage with no devices connected and changed passwords frequently::. T mobile was wonky for about a week when I first got it as far as lots of variability in speeds but a huge part was actually placing the modem/router in the house. it’s been a great experience and I would recommend it if you don’t have hardwired options. That being said, I am sure it’s still not as fast or as reliable as any of the wired providers. Last edited by ampsw20; 01-17-2021 at 11:24 PM.. Reason: Data usage explanation |

Time to resurrect this ancient post. Just got our gateway yesterday. Was odd since we were on the waiting list, expecting it to come in October. The only thing I thought we had coming was a new phone for me (my OnePlys 7T Pro 5G McLaren has had TONS of issues since they brought out 11 and OnePlus has done nothing to fix it, so I'm going back to Samsung with the Z Flip 3 since my trade makes it "free"), so when the box came and it was this gateway thing, we were all like how?
Now for how well it works. Spectrum we were paying $80 a month for 100 mbps. There's outages in our area galore with T Mobile towers being upgraded, so we don't get full reception on the gateway, but so far we've been averaging about 180-210 mbps. Imagine what that's gonna be like when the upgrades are finished.... sheesh. |

What a difference a few months makes. In the time since I created this thread my company has started to pay for my Internet (thus eliminating the cost factor of my complaint) and I've purchased property to build a house. The new property will have a choice of several providers, thus eliminating my complaint about Comcast in general. So, problem solved!

Didn't T-Mobile just have a major security breach?

I have only gone over the 1.2Tb limit twice in the last 2 years - once when I was pushing all my backups to an additional cloud service - I usually end up using around 800-900Gb most months This test is from my Mac - upper floor office - farthest from the router - I am going over a mesh Orbi Network from the satellite, to the main one

Currently there's some outages at the closest towers, but even with 2 bars, I'm getting close to 200 mbps. For $50 a month, it's nuts. We were paying $80 for Spectrum for 100 mbps. I have them both hooked up at the moment, but I think it's time to shut down the Spectrum router for good.

To be honest, I'm already impressed. 200 down/20 up with 2 reception bars is a great sign.
