The silverado is a fine truck as its the same as a GMC essentially. I just like the styling on the GMC better.

So 40c a litre? Jesus H. Before Covid19 we were at $6 gallon for premium.

It was over $4 a gallon for regular gas in Cincy back in 2009. That's when I was driving a Tundra @ 14 mpg.

Assuming 91cents / Litre (which is close to what it is here) for Ontario

Crude = 26.1
Markups = 23.1
Tax (4 different ones) = 41.8

At it's cheapest I've seen locally from the supply spike we got down to about 55c/L.

I know many people who DD their trucks to work, on the highway it's reasonable but still not very sensible.

May not be sensible to some but where i live trucks are common place. The roads arent always great and our winters consist of snow ice and slush mix. It allows me to have a vehicle capable of using for most any task and still remain practical.

Not everyone may agree but it isnt their money

Kind of ironic, but my non-American Toyota truck was manufactured in San Antonio, TX.

If it makes you happy more power to you, not putting you down for it just dont like non American trucks and dont like toyota in general. Had a Nissan truck about 10 yrs ago and the engine and rest of the truck fell apart before 170k. Felt like it lost 50hp atleast. My expedition with 218k feels like a brand new 5.4

Being built in America or being designed in America doesn't make it American. With that logic, the Mexican-built Ram trucks are Mexican? LOL. Not poking fun, just making an observation. Lately, very few Japanese car designs speak to me (if ever, now that I think about it). I don't know what it is, but it's almost like they're designed by a novice designer who tries too hard.

I had a '16 Sierra 1500 Z71 4x4. Got 27mpg on a 5-hour drive doing 85-90mph. Traded mine in for my '16 535i M Sport since I wasn't using it as a truck but paying commercial registration rates in this great state of Kommiefornia.

Anyway, it's a great truck except for a few things.
1) On newer GM vehicles, recirc mode doesn't really mean recirc. You will always still get outside smell. They think, for whatever reason they try to tell you, that they leave 8% fresh air for safety reasons and will try to have you believe that all manufacturers do it too.
2) The transmission will "snap loose" when you slow down to about 5mph and then accelerate again. It's somewhat unnerving, but it's a side effect of the way they programmed the transmission. If you've ever experienced it, you'll know what I mean. This is on the 8-speed transmission.
3) The soft open tailgate will fail with colder weather and work again in warmer weather.
4) In my two years of ownership, the infotainment screen froze about four times. Although you can switch to radio, no other controls or buttons will work. Shutting off the truck will reset it, and the problem is completely random.
5) When reversing, the brake assist system will lose vacuum causing a hard brake pedal with little to no braking ability. There was no recall at the time of my trade, but a month afterwards, I received a letter informing me of the recall.
6) The headlight LED bulbs are non-replaceable (built-in). If they ever go out, you will need to replace the entire headlamp assembly at $750 a pop. Not as expensive as a BMW headlamp unit but still.

Other than those items listed, it's a pretty good truck.

I'm not a fan of most of Toyota's products (much of it is blah), but I do like their 4-Runners, Tacomas, and older Land Cruisers and Supras. They are typically rugged and reliable. If I were looking for a full size truck however, I would stick with Ford, GM, or RAM.

Which is why it is ironic that some Japanese trucks are built in America and some American trucks are built in a foreign country. Tacoma production is split between Texas and Mexico actually. The parent company may be Japanese, but the Tacoma and Tundra were designed for the North American market. I imagine the Mexican built Ram was also intended for the North American market, not just the US market.

That's incredible mpg for a truck. Big thanks for the input btw.
The recirc wouldn't really bother me however I will have to look into that transmission issue. Does it affect anything? Also do you know if it was on the 6speed as well or just the 8speed?
On my f350 I've had the nav/touchscreen pop the fuse multiple times (never blew it though) and cause the radio not to work. Other features such as heated cooled seats were unaffected though. So the issue with yours seems like the better option to deal with if it were to occur.
The headlight I was unaware of. That's definitely a pricey fix so I'll have to watch out for that and take that into consideration for my choice.
Thanks for providing some feedback. How was the ride comfort and handling?

Im not sure compared to other F150, but I dont believe it is. I pay $1200 for the year. Full coverage-Allstate

When the infotainment freezes, it's just the infotainment. The heated steering wheel, heated seats, a/c controls, all still work. One more thing, the top section of the steering wheel doesn't get as warm as the bottom sections. I say sections because the heating elements seem to be separated at the spokes. The top section is nearly half the circumference, so it has more area for heat dispersion, thereby not getting as hot. At least that's what I was led to believe. The service department says the other trucks they had on their lot replicated mine.

The transmission issue is on the 8-speed only. The 6-speed doesn't have that, but driving one back to back, the 6-speed model felt heavier to me. It hasn't affected anything in the time I've had it.

As far as comfort, it's smooth until you go over those speed bumps, not humps, but bumps. It feels more like a heavy duty truck than a light truck. They use monotube shocks and provide support only on the compression stroke. I suspect that the rebound is too much for the truck's weight. I've read that it is night and day after replacing with a better shocks like the Bilstein 5100's. The Bilstein provide damping on the compression and rebound.

I drive a 2018 Silverado Z71 crew cab as my daily driver. It's averaging about 21MPG and I have gotten as high as 28MPG on long trips in the summer. Hauling a 7000# camping trailer, I get about 15MPG which is decent. I haven't spend a penny on maintenance yet. First 2 services were free and I got GM points to cover the other 2 services. Not a single thing need adjustment. No rattles, HID lights and LED fog lights are amazing. Automatic just about everything else. HD trailer package, integrated trailer brakes, tow-haul mode that does engine braking.
The 12 hours+ drive with the trailer down to the Outer Banks was fantastic too. You do have to watch out for some non trailer friendly service stations. My setup is over 50 feet long so the turning radius is a handful.

But again, I've always had good luck with Chevy product. Your results may vary.

I went through this, specifically wanted a crew cab 6.2l Gen 1 Raptor. Well, with everything going on I compromised. My budget was around $20,000, which if you know the Raptor market - it doesn't get you very far.

I ended up finding an old-man owned 09' Silverado 1500 Crew with a TVS1900 blower. Less than half of what I was originally planning on spending, it worked out for me.

I think a Raptor is in the future but you should look at all your options. From a depreciation aspect the Raptor is the obvious choice. Depending on your driving habits, truck use, etc then a K2XX or T1XX might be a better option. I have friends with Ram 1500's who really enjoy them as well.

Go test drive a few!

My budget is around 25k give or take a few thousand. Like you a raptor is my first choice but im worried about getting one that has been beat on where the others are likely to just have highway miles maybe a bit of towing use.
Im leaning towards the GMC for fuel economy and looks. I know GM engines tend to be pretty reliable and i have a buddy who worked at a dealership and drove all of them a ton. He said the chevy/gmc interior features were his favorite but theyre all great trucks anymore.
Definitely gonna have to go out and drive a few soon.

You are in prime raptor territory to get a 13/14 at 25k, or a very low mileage 11/12. While there were some model year updates, the biggest is HID's in 13/14.

At 18-20k I was picking from the bottom of the barrel. Many of these trucks have just been enjoyed as trucks. Buying from a private party you will be able to ask the owner about their history with the truck.

Don’t shy away from Ram, I have a 2017 2500, been flawless. Independent rear suspension too. Interiors far better than Ford. Chevy/GMC center console is odd to me. Raptors just sayS “i have a small penis”

I looked at the Ram and i just cant deal with their interiors. It looks all hard cheap plastic and ive never been a big fan of them anyway.

I know Ram models of past had some very cheap feeling plastic in their interiors, but I thought the latest model had a significantly improved, high quality "luxurious" interior compared to the current Ford and GM offerings. That's what I recall reading anyway. I'm sure it can vary widely with the different models and trims.
