btw, nice editing. do you use "smart sharpen" to sharpen your photos?

One tool that I think is worth mentioning is the "selective color" tool, located under Image>Adjustments.

I took your original pic and did the following steps:
-Smart sharpen
-Auto levels/contrast/color
-Levels
-Hue/Saturation
-Selective Color
-Reduce Noise

It helps define the clouds. I find this to be the best tool in combination with Leveling. I selected Cyan and Blue and decreased the black values and it really brought out the detail in the sky after it was washed out from leveling.

I like the enthusiasm..but I think after these adjustments (while the first pic wasnt perfect), you have left certain areas underexposed, whereas the other had slightly overexposed values...but I like the sky

maybe a graduated filter to let some of the other values from the orig pic shine through for better exposure...an hdr of sorts!

I usually use the polygonal lasso tool (click to form lines). It involves a lotta clicking but it makes for a smoother selection.

True that, I think you're right. I feel like it's a result of leveling pictures. If you don't watch out they can become washed out. I might have overdone it with the selective coloring.

noice work mang. i forgot to mention the step after selecting the M5: inverse select (shift+ctrl+I), but it seems like you figured that one out.

I'll play. A before and after. You can still see some sloppy editing, but the picture wasn't used for a large print so... who cares

This is a print that I "Posterized" with Roxio. This is relatively easy to do, but selecting an effective photo is the hard part, then experimenting with the contrast and saturation.
