It's a very nice car and I think it's great looking. I did test drive one as I was interested in purchasing it, but it just felt a bit too big for my liking. Totally a personal preference, but I'd take it over any current M4/3/2 by a mile.

Yeah there are plenty of large SUVs and pick up trucks but I see them often running over curbs as the driver enters/exits driveways or even turns onto or out of a side street. These larger vehicles often don't fit in parking spaces. I have managed to avoid driving over curbs and such in all my cars I've owned here, which includes a Hellcat and a Scat Pack. But it takes constant awareness of just how narrow roads/driveways are here. At any rate while I liked the M8 I didn't go any further. But I've been thinking about it... In fact I contacted my insurance agent and got a quote for M8 insurance. To insure the M8 with the same coverage as my 2023 M2 it would cost me $1218/6 months compared to the 2023 M2 premium of $841/6 months. Roughly $200/month for M8 insurance. (No tickets. No claims. Retired so no work commute or school commute. In 18 months I have averaged 550 miles/month in my M2.) The M8 would cost me a bit more for insurance than I was paying when I owned a 2024 BMW 230ix and the M2. For these two cars I was paying $1422/6 months. 'course, last August when my car insurance came up for renewal I decided the 230ix was expendable so I sold it back to the dealer. I had decided that owning 2 cars now that I was retired and wasn't facing a day in day out work commute was an unnecessary extra expense. Some time -- weeks possibly even a few months later -- happened to be back at the dealer for some reason and ran into my CA and happened to mention the M8 which was still on the lot. He said something to me about the car and he included a price: $136,000. This is not the price on the sticker. The car lists for $143,885. I didn't say anything about the price difference but after I got to thinking and I suspect rather than my CA remembering the price wrong the price has been lowered. Not online. Nor last time I was at the dealer and looked did I seen any price reduction signs on the car. But it is a 2024 and now the 2025 models are out the car has undoubtedly been on the lot far longer than the dealer expected. Tempting. But more times than I care to recall I have gone one car too far. I fear the M8 replacing the M2 would be one car too far. |

It's a beautiful car for sure.. I just had so much bad luck with mine (M850i). It's also an absolute depreciation monster which some dealers don't want to touch with a 10 foot pole.

I think the f12 6 series looks waaaaaaayyyyyyy better than the 8 series.
The 8's more advance tech is the only buying point for me. I know this is nothing new but those car values drop like hot cakes- I recently saw an 8 series going for like 37k. With under 40k miles. But I would get another a 6 in a heartbeat |

I think it's one of the best looking cars BMW has built. I'm partial to the Gran Coupe version but they all look great. The mechanic in me is not a fan of hot V architecture in the M5/8 and M550, so the 840 would hit the sweet spot.
That said, I've been monitoring the T2 and T3 S63 motors and they have definitely improved reliability.

Never had to use the spare on the cargo van but late one night out in the panhandle of TX used the VW's full size spare. By way of comparison ended up in Fresno in my 996 Turbo with a leaking rear tire. A slow leak thankfully. No tire shop would patch the tire. Fresno Porsche dealer had no tires in stock nor did any local tire store. Had to drive back to Walnut Creek CA where the local dealer had suitable tires. But next AM after spending the night in a nearby hotel found the dealer *didn't* have the tires I was told it had. Called around some more and the Sacramento dealer said it had a set of Bridgestone tires (sanctioned for use on the Turbo) in stock. Drove there and after an hour or two left with 4 new tires. Over $1000 poorer and a good day of my precious vacation time used up. The next favorite car for long distance driving was the MINI S fitted with run flat tires. But the time I drove it from AR to CA and back the tires were fine. If I end up with an 8 whether I drive it long distances or not will depend upon various things but not the weight of the car. |

Yeah don’t get these posts about weight. Every car is heavy. The AMG GT is the same weight almost. All of those competitors are (Panamera, etc.). You can’t feel the weight in the M8 at all….. It’s a great car. I just got rid of mine a month or two ago. I think the M8 is the best looking. The M850i is a great car, too, for a lesser price.

I had looked at the M850 but the interior looked dated. If they change it next year I might look into one. But… the exterior IMO is one of the best looking cars out there, I want to see what they do with it in the next couple years.

Haven't studied the 8 interior that much but when I looked at some pics I instantly liked that the climate controls are right at hand vs. in my M2 having to touch the climate control symbol to switch the display to climate control and then select the desired setting.

The 8 series is on its way out in 2027. I don't see them updating it very much if at all. Even with the LCI the only change was that the iDrive screen got a few inches larger. Seems like they are just biding their time till the end of their typical 7 year life cycle with it
