A used Evo or even an STi would be in that price range. They'd also offer better overall performance and higher resale value.

They'd offer better performance on a track, but not on the street, and it also comes at the expense of comfort and daily drivability. I spent some time in both before I bought the GTO. I'd be willing to be that in five years the resale value is a wash. Both those cars are subject to a lot of abuse, and the used car market knows it.

Reason I'm considering selling is back when I ordered, things(money) was great. Then right after I picked her up, my wife quit her full time job making good money. She hated it there, but it paid well. I supported her because we were kicking off our own business at the same time. Well, now she has 3 part time jobs and our business hasn't kicked off like we thought it would. So, we have gone through our savings and now just trying to keep afloat. I love my car, but it is just a car. I would rather get into something cheaper that I still want than to rarely see my wife at home with her working 3 jobs. I love my wife more than my 135i...who woulda thought.

'08 GTI was #2 on my list behind the 135. The DSG tranny is really impressive. It may not generate the numbers of the other two you listed, but I think it is much more satisfying to drive.

My last VW was a 95 GTI VR6, which I drove 100K miles. The only problem I had was one window regulator, but YMMV.

Without knowing the whole situation I'd say the same thing. I started up a small business from scratch a few years ago (later sold out to my partner) and the first 18 months was tough! We had a pretty solid business plan, but there were expenses invovled that we hadn't even imagined.

What sucks is I came from a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant with 75K miles that had been paid off since 2005. I'd hate to go back to something like that after this car, but I do understand my priorities. Would be a lot quicker to catch back up money wise without a $600+ payment ever month. I'm trying to hold out, but we will see how things play out. Thanks again for all the advice/comments all.

I say suck it up for awhile and buy something super cheap (ie: under $5k). Drive that and maintain it till your biz gets off the ground more and the economy pans out. Save Save Save!!!

Id get rid of the 330xi because its probably paid off or close to. Get rid of it and get an A to B car like a Honda.

+1, been there, done that. I makes sense. Don't forget - you can always stick an ///M badge on the Civic

To pocket in the difference between the bimmer and the lesser car. If he sells the 135 the financial hit will be bigger since its a fairly new car. Id rather have payments and 15-20K in my pocket with a (beater) as a second car.

^^but they are cheap. I mean, plastic all over, u'll get squeeks and parts falling off by no time.

Mods wise, American cars in general are the cheapest to mod and will have a great str8 line outcome. In a dangerous way.

The interior in the GTO is very good. Mine had less rattles at 60k miles than my 135i does now (at 14k). The GTO is a mature chassis and has the bugs worked out. There aren't any material quality issues with them at all. Also it's not an American car. The GTO has less than 5% US domestic parts content, about the same as the 135i.

I agree. The fit and finish in the GTO is great. I have never heard a rattle in one yet. They are built in Australia. The GTO is the best bang for the buck! I think the GTO fit and finish is better then the 135i. They hold up well and very easy to mod. Try LS1GTO.com and take a look around. (its for LS2 gto's as well) Good luck!
