I have been looking at E90/E92 M3 as well I used to own a E90 335i the prices are certainly up on those and I need to figure rod Bearing into the cost unless they can provide documentation for it being done.

I have looked at E46 M3's as well which I have never felt a connection with not sure why but the S54 is certainly a more exciting engine than a S52

I have looked into Z3M Roadsters as well but not sure if id like it as much even though it has the M3 drivetrain

I think getting a E36 M3 is just something I need to get off my bucketlist even if the car might not justify the price.

M539 Restorations has a 2-part series on one, "Project Valencia". The first one is short and about the car and how he gets it. The 2nd is him reworking every issue he knows of. I'd probably call that a "must watch" video. It could tell you a lot about what to look for and help you negotiate a price if you find one you're interested in. And be a great guide for repairs as well if you DIY.

The E36 design stands out to let everyone know its a BMW, no question. Your M3 in red looks fabulous there.

If I had spare cash, even if not to drive it, personally I would buy one as a collector.

Alpine white 2 door for sale looks pretty good

I thought you would like this Used 1997 BMW M3 for $13500 on Autotrader http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/2B30BA66

Some miles on it but that's about what they're going for. All in all it looks like a pretty decent example. I should probably just get that instead of all the work to strip and clean this one up.

Trying to put the timing cover on with the head and oil pan still in place was a bad idea. Didn't work for me. I loosened the oil pan as much as I could but when I put the timing cover back on the next day noticed a part of the head gasket sticking out funny inside of the engine. It's not really easy to do that without damaging it especially if the gasket is all brittle 30 years old..

So the manifolds are off and the head's about to come off, great. All that stuff under the intake manifold needed to be replaced anyway, so not so bad.

I've been considering selling mine - I've owned it for 15+ years but I just don't drive it anymore.

It's an Estoril coupe with ~135k miles - I'll be giving it some love this winter and may formally list it come Spring.

I'm not here to tell anyone what they should buy or what's a bargain in today's economy. I will say that I'm happy to have a '99 e36 slick coupe in the family. It either satisfies an itch or it lives in social media dreams. I can care less for the latter. Drive your cars and be happy with what touches your soul.

After having a 1999 E36 M3 and having to sell it in the year 2000, I've always wanted to get another one. So I was finally able to get a 1999 E36 M3 in Titanium Silver with 60,000 miles. So happy!

Nice and congrats! Any plans for it? Definitely a nice stable mate to the G80 CS!

Thanks!

Just plan on overhauling the original cooling system but mostly just going to enjoy returning to old school BMW analog feel, especially the steering.

You can tell I like E36 by my signature. I had one at 16, and have wanted to get back into one since. Unfortunately, I picked the peak of the market to get in :/

My 94 hellrot is a euro-spec Japanese import that I have $32k in and would still plan on painting it. But that $32k includes a ton of NOS weatherstripping, gaskets, trims, CD43, real motorsport seatbelts, NOS m-rain seat covers, KW clubsports, cooling system redone with all OEM, garagistic parts, etc.

The 97 boston I got absolutely fucked on and have I think $47k into it with legal fees after suing the guy who sold it to me, who then fled the state and continued to scam people. At some point I will get my money back one way or another.

The 94 sedan is mint, 62k mile second owner car, white over black manual with only options being power locks and the security system. I bought NOS Motorsport body parts for it and will build a touring car strassenversion.

I'm getting rid of the green car, and will be keeping an eye out for the right techno sedan to match my g80

Would love to sell my 95 coupe with s52 obd1 for a M3/4/5. Granddaughter does not fit in the back seat all that well of the coupe because the lack of her own door.

Mine has a 3.46 LSD which just wakes it up on the street, granted I would have preferred a longer 3.38 for highways

Congrats on your purchase, it looks in really good condition from your pictures. I've never seen one in silver before, really good looking and only 60k miles, are you serious?!

I couldn't believe it either when I found it. Only a 2 owner car and the last owner only put on 5,000 miles in 13 years of ownership. Interior and exterior are in fantastic condition and it doesn't even have any door dings. Really lucky to have found it and so excited to be back in a E36 M3 after all these years.

What is also amazing is how much smaller and lower it is when compared with my 24 M3, the new M3 just dwarfs the E36.
