Check out pitchforkmedia.com for some good music tips.

Spin magazine might be a good start, but it's gotten pretty trendy lately.

Most music these days is horrible, I agree. I can't stand any of the new rap music, it's all the same crap, and I don't feel like listening to some 18 year old with gold teeth rap about how much money and ice they have. I do disagree on Amy Winehouse, while I don't care for her "rehab" song the album is actually pretty decent. She might not be everybody's style (not even really mine) but she is talented and the album is worth a listen. Anymore I just crank up some Bob Seger or The Who and jam away, but I do have a soft spot for old school rap still.

How about going to a REAL 9-5 job and doing something productive instead of ruining the brains of our youth with all that jibberish!

Our society has gone to shambles. As a society, we glorify half naked women (we've essentially reduced them to a piece of meat). We don't respect our elders. We steal to get high/drunk. We speak like 2 yr olds. We dress like we just stepped out of bed w/ our jeans hanging off our asses and our boxers showing. We don't face responsibility.

Oh and by the way, I understand why Blacks wear a durag, but WTF, why do some Whites wear a durag for??? Even Blacks are supposed to wear a durag at home-now it's a fasion thing (been that way for a few years).
I agree, but on the flip side if I could get paid millions for talking about ho's and ice and whatnot I would as well. You can't blame them, it's society that buys that garbage. And there is nothing wrong with half naked women, by the way Our society has changed, but generalizing everybody into the category of baggy jeans and durags is a little harsh.

meh, I haven't listened to the radio (short of games and talk during football season ) since the late '90's. Punk rock FTW! All these MTV punk bands need to go.

I still mix it up though, Rock/ Electronic/ Alter Rock/ Punk/ Grunge/ etc got to keep it fresh....
Agreed.

I've seen Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjaming, Papa Roach, and Chevelle live within the past year. They are all great bands, and put on great shows.

I'm going to Stone Temple Pilots concert Saturday, CANNOT WAIT!

Also going to CrueFest in July. Motley Crue, Sixx AM, Papa Roach, Trapt, and Buckcherry.

Going to Seether in August. Probably at least 2 or 3 other concerts before the years out. Hopefully more than that.

I always listen to more underground stuff, and older '90's stuff. Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, STP, TOOL, From Autumn To Ashes, GNR, Killswitch, Poision The Well.....

IMO, rock will always be the best. There will always be so many genres of it, and new sounds to be invented.

i don't even listen to mainstream music for the lyrics anymore. it's all about the beat.

as long as it's catchy and makes money, mainstream music will live on. just like those horrible commercials or anything horrible for that matter. as long as it's catchy, it will stick to you and it will eventually grow on you. the producers know this. that's why they're the filthy rich ones producing "crap" music that is making them a crapload of money.

I've noticed this too, but my complaint is not just with mainstream music, but "mainstream rock" as well. In my area bands like Nickelback, and bands that sound like Nickelback , get waaaaay too much radio play, and to me they all sound like generic crap. I can't stand Nickelback (even though they're local Canadians from my area).

So over the last year, year and a half, I've focused my attention back on some of the solo artists who are true masters of their instrument (Joe Satriani being one example of a bonnafide guitar GOD), and older-school bands that put out consistently good music in their heyday. Examples: Van Halen, AC/DC, Ozzy, Metallica (let's forget about their last album "St. Anger"), Iron Maiden, etc. Those are bands!! They rocked and rocked hard.

In fact I've been seeing a lot of these guys in concert lately, on various reunion tours. Van Halen w/ DLR back in the band last fall - awesome. I just saw Maiden on their Somewhere Back in Time tour in my city just a couple weeks ago. Incredible!! EVERY band needs a frontman like Bruce Dickenson I tell you!

whether or not a band/group is on the raido is pretty much the criteria i use to determine what i listen to. if a band/group is not on the radio or mtv, there chances of the music not being garbage goes up approximately 9,000%

Man I COMPLETELY feel ya.

So much shit out there, but I can't help but say that it's been this way for a long time. Too long if you ask me.

The breaking point for me was listening to that shit song lolli lolli...holy mother of jesus that song blows so badly.

Just off the top of my head, Lil Wayne, 50 cent, soulja boy, my chem romance, and so many others have fucked up mainstream music. I've even removed all of my radio shortcuts in my car cuz I don't listen to it anymore.

I've just found so much rap, hip hop, and techno in the past few weeks that has helped a lot.

If you want real good hip hop, listen to hilltop hoods, army of the pharoahs, and sweatshop union (and my hip hop doesn't sound anything at ALL like the shit on the radio). For techno try crystal castles. Best f'n stuff I've heard in a long time. I listen to that and my loads of indie, rap, and hip hop and I've been pretty well off haha.
