In any case, it doesn't preclude a collaborative effort between BMW and McLaren to conceive the new engine. BMW would then still be able to build and supply the engines to Jaguar. |

Sweet, maybe McLaren can share the secret sauce with BMW on how to make rod bearings and other essential motor components last longer than 50k miles!

"...Working with a number of partners including BMW Group..."
I wouldn't read into this whole article too much, it doesn't exactly specify the level of BMW involvement. I would think this won't be anything more than BMW supplying McLaren with engines and tailoring something already in the BMW parts bin to work in a McLaren chassis. http://www.mahle-powertrain.com/en/e...-jet-ignition/ Mazda's HCCI looks very interesting. And quite concerning. There is good reason no one has done this for a production vehicle yet. However, with direct injection and other recent technologies, it does seem plausible. Likely, there will be a learning curve to creating long-term reliability for this engine, but I love that they are pursuing it.

Out of those three, my guess is the hybrid turbo is least likely. But the only reason I can see the other two don't make the cut is if they have something better in mind that none of us have seen (or that they just can't make either option reliable enough, of course).

Extended Warranty companies are licking their chops at the sales of these cars with the new engine partnership.........
Side note..Toyota supplies the Lotus Exige with it's engine and it's a screamer.....

The interview with the BMW M CEO he said 'in the end, all cars will be electric, including M vehicles'. Why waste time and money on this now.

As for the partnership I am far more interested in a $100k-$180k car than a $400k very limited edition car I will never own or probably even see.

Wasn't there a rumour a couple of years ago, or maybe months, that said McLaren and BMW were teaming up to build a BMW supercar by 2019? So could this be the start of that or is this just it?
