Agreed on toning down the kidney grills.

Also agreed that if it rolls out it will kill Tesla. Gamechanger.

It will not have that kind of range. Much lower actually.

They're using a rating formula that officially is only going to be used for one more year but does not apply to true miles here in the US.

That is true. However, BMW's F30 320i is rated 24 city and 35 highway but I am consistently getting 35.6 combined and over 40+ on the highway.

Unless I am driving my car across the Atlantic Ocean I don't care if it's worldwide. I just need to be able to charge this in my garage.

Then you will be fine. But if you want to take a trip it might be an issue depending on where you're going.

Unfortunately the CCS combo plug is not that well-established at this point.

But you can always call Enterprise and ask them to pick you up.

I'll sit on the EV cars for a couple more years before I even consider it. The pull for charge stations will be much more dire in the coming years as I don't think the ratio of cars to stations will be parallel.

But even if it does keep up with the demand.. I'm too stubborn to give up petrol engines until the bitter end! The EV car will be for my fiancé.. but her 328 F30 works splendidly as is.

The practical ideas to have one of each. The gas savings is something you will love.

I have had one battery electric vehicle in the stable for over 4 1/2 years and we're on our second one.

In combination with my M car I take Uber to work if I don't want to drive the M and the EV I drive when my wife's not driving it.

The charger network is its only valuable asset. Its name has been tarnished by poor QC. Its battery technology is 1980s. It will be acquired by another automaker or an entreprenurial conglomerate precisely for its charger network, which will be fee per use.

The battery factory is big, but that's about it. If I had real estate in Sparks, I'd be selling it right now. (I actually have real property in northern Washoe County, in Red Rock, that I am trying to sell.)

I have no doubt Tesla will be bought by another company soon enough.

I would guess Apple buys Tesla because they have more money than God.

BMW’s Tesla Model 3-rivaling i4 to arrive 2020 with 700-km range

http://driving.ca/bmw/auto-news/news...h-700-km-range

Quote:
Company's i Vision Dynamics concept to hit production in two years, alongside iX3 electric SUV

by NICHOLAS MARONESE

BMW confirmed it will build an i4 four-door coupe by 2020 to take on Tesla‘s Model 3, though with a much greater range topping out at between 550 km and 700 km per charge, depending on trim.

The brand’s fifth-gen eDrive line – which will likely power BMW’s first fully electric SUV, the iX3, also due out 2020 – will boast similar numbers, BMW CEO Harald Kruger told Auto Express. The company wants to launch 12 other new EVs by 2025.

The i4 will be directly based on the BMW i Vision Dynamics concept from last September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, and while it will almost certainly change details of its appearance, the overall proportions and autopilot-sensor-laden fake kidney grille are expected to make it to market.

The platform the i4 will ride on will be all-new and will be shared by several gas, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles; the i4 specifically will use lithium-ion batteries. Its electric motors will be good for zero-to-100 km/h rips in 4.0 seconds and top speeds of 193 km/h.

Meanwhile, the i4 may be beaten to market by BMW’s iX3 electric crossover SUV, due out in concept form in April at the Beijing Motor Show. Details regarding that truck were scarce, but are certain to be revealed in more depth next month.

This could be a very interesting proposition instead of a SAV for me.
I ride my bike to my office too on days that I need to be in. Takes me 40 mins each way & I get a GREAT workout. I don't have to worry about getting my cars dented in the lot or parking attendants moving it around (it's very dense where I work - Beverly Hills). Mainly using my cars also for weekends or trips w/ my lady
That's a good ride time and lower body workout. Would think that biking saves you a lot of time instead of sitting in traffic and light after light.

The F97 X3M will be the bees knees and will also be highly desirable, but an a BMW i car for city use often is intriguing. Can set up a charger at the house and then roll out on errands.

I have never had an electric car but would seriously consider one, and I think there will be one in my life soon.

An EV would be a very new experience for me.
