The two biggies for me were the AC Cobra and Corvette Stingray (with the 63 split window being the creme de la creme).

I've heard a story of someone cutting out the rear window of his 63 to make it look like a new 64 model. I think there might have been some regret with his decision.

Like the OP one of them was the Ferrari 308 GTSi from Magnum. I've been into cars since the craddle but that one did and still does get me going!
DeLorean....Back to the future and my neighbor sparked that one. My neighbor had one and took me for rides. They suck but they look amazing. Porsche 928's...all of them. I'm not quite sure why, maybe it was the way the v8 sounded on the 1st one I heard cold start as a child. Those are some beautifully ugly cars to me. I'd love to have a well sorted example some day. Testarossa.....Miami Vice was a staple in my house growing up. That was the baddest car on the planet to me for a good while. Still find them sexy in their hugeness! Countach LP5000....because what car kid that grew up in the 80's didn't? A friend of my dad owned a white on white LP5000 when I was a teenager. It was alien when it was on the road. It was hot as hell, AC blew luke warm, you looked like a moron backing it up with the door swung up to the heavens, but there's nothing like it. My dad's friend offered to let me drive it to prom, dad killed that quickly....still haven't forgave the old man! |

Mine was the Mustang GT 500. I loved the looks and power. My brother’s dream car was a gull wing Mercedes.

OOH I forgot about the 928 That was an amazing car. The weird frog eye pop up lights and the rectangular shaped seat cushion to the triple glass rear windows. I would also add Audi Quatro Turbo from the same period as well. The sexy fender flares and slanted white leather upholstery. The sticker price on these cars were $40K in the 80's A Mustang from the same period was $10K |

I used to think of BMWs as boring, frumpy-looking sedans and then I saw this BMW M1 modified by Mardikian Motors. 3-piece Gotti wheels and an aero kit! It couldn't get more 80's than that if Nagel painted it and it came with brick of cocaine in the glovebox.

Oh Wow!! My Dad had a 1990 325i that he purchased in Germany before retiring from the Army. Had the Euro bumpers on it.

You're not alone. Growing up my father was an engineer at GM so for whatever reason I was in love with dually Silverados.

I was a young man, outside playing in the front lawn in Beaverton, Oregon. My neighbor across the cul de sac had just purchased not one, but TWO brand new 1987 GT Mustangs (Aero nose redesign) and I said to myself, thats my car. He later stripped one down to its core to race, and the other for street cruising.
At the age of 15 I purchased that very car, only it was a 1988. I was fortunate that my “dream car” was quite affordable. Worked since I was 11 to be able to afford it and I was never so proud. Oh, life was so simple... |

Dino 246gt.
Still remember seeing one advertised in the classifieds in R&T in the late 70's for an ungodly price of 7k or something ridiculous.

Same here. Unfortunately, when I finally did get to drive an NSX I actually didn't like it nearly as much as my S2000. Time had moved on, sadly. |

During my single digit ages I had a fascination with cars getting airborne which led to liking the General Lee, The Bandit's Trans Am, Bullitt's Mustang, and the 3.0 CSL (from a poster in my dad's garage).

Air cooled 911s. Cold start without the undertray. mechanical lifters. Probably the stiffest door latches in automotive history at the time. a mission to open and close as a kid. Cable throttle. Watching someone heel-toe in them as a passenger looked like an accomplishment. Those cars.. had to wring their neck to get to 7/10th’s. Then the oil finally gets hot.
