Drinking some fig infused rye whiskey tonight. It's subtle but great (still 90 proof). From Journeyman Distillery

Probably like the plant Fig... but if I had to guess that is likely what the fig newton *slightly* represents. It was a little sweetness with an earthy tone and I actually enjoyed it a bit. The Cherry infused one on the other hand.... so sour! Might use that one (or both) as a mixer.

Tonight we will sit at an outside dining table and I will order a Kentucky Blood (or 3)

Buffalo Trace
Blood Orange
Serrano chile slice and a bit of its juice

Oh, and some food that probably will include Brussels sprouts.

Who likes rum? I want to buy but don't know how to choose. To be honest, I was dreaming about a glass of wine all day long. Recently I bought several bottles from https://haywines.co.uk/ and can't wait to taste it. My friend recommended to buy Chateau Soussans Margaux 2016, I actually love wine from France so that I hope I'll like it.

The Pendergast #2 from the book I'm Just Here For The Drinks by Sother Teague.

.5 oz Benedictine
.5 oz whiskey
.75 oz sweet vermouth
.125 oz sherry
3-4 dashes orange bitters

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir and strain into a chilled rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

The recipe didn't call for sherry - but it called for a specific Kansas City whiskey that adds a certain amount of sherry to their finished whiskey before bottling, so I improvised. Pretty tasty! Make sure you use a sweet vermouth that you really enjoy as it takes center stage here (we used Carpano Antica).

A few off the top of my head would be Elijah Craig barrel proof (the c19 and A20 were both solid), sagamore rye CS, Jack Daniels BP, stagg jr to name a few I like a few drops of water in.

Some you don't really gain much like OF 1920, OGD114, Makers mark CS, MM private selects (the ones I've tried), and store picks are hit and miss.
I think "Drops" is the key here. Not a splash....a few drops....

Yeah, I have an actual eye dropper that I use too... and THAT is what makes me "serious" to other people and not my collection somehow

Add a few drops and let it sit for 10 minutes for full effect.

I'm taking a break from distilled spirits lately. This is a current favorite, at least until the local brewers release their stouts.

If it is new I will just keep drinking it over the 10 minutes to see how it is changing. If it is something I have had before and know I like water in it, pour something else first that does not need water and drink that first!
