Good to know its a sound issue only and not a diff issue. Makes me feel alot better.
Will we have to break in the diff again when they put the new diff? If yes, how many miles does the diff need for break in? |

Feel so bad for all of you guys... But here's a viewpoint that maybe gives you some solace...
My car finished production on 14JUN so I should be affected by the recall. But I got it delivered to me on 07JUL so a few days before this all first surfaced. Back when it was only 200 cars that were affected, I checked the list and the VIN before and after mine in the sequence were on it, but mine wasn't. Lucky me, or so I thought. Since then I have seen the number of affected cars grow to the 4000 we're looking at now and I don't doubt that I would be on the list if one was public for me to check again. I just won't call my CA (don't have an SA yet) as I don't want them to tell me I'm no longer to drive it. However at some point (latest at the 1200-mile service) they're going to catch up with me and at that point the diff will be replaced at the dealership. Now here's where you guys are better off: as upset as I would be to have to wait for my car, I am even more upset with the idea that this major task will now have to be performed at my dealer. You guys whose car is stuck at the VPC are much better off having it replaced there by techs we know are much more competent than most workers found at dealerships. Hope this helps see some silver lining... |

I talked to someone at genius today: G: status = "work order started" Me: "is there a hold on the vehicle" G: "oh, let me check, yup there is" (i'm thinking, why do I have to ask?) Me: "what are the next steps, i'm scheduled for PCD on 8/8 without any notification of cancellation or delay. Also, I have a one-way ticket purchased - what happens now" G: "oh no, let me give you the ph# for PCD" Me: "what are they going to do" G: "i'm not sure, that's the only phone number I have" Me: roll my eyes and say "thank you" What I learned: you can not sign contract until there is a scheduled delivery date. Re-submit credit app so you don't lose out on July rates if you are leasing. Left wondering when ill get my car Come on BMW - give us something!! Even if it's 4 weeks! You are accepting orders for '17 allocation to be built in August!!! |

hahahah, i did the same thing today. I already knew car was shit, but decided to ask anyway. Not sure why he didn't just tell me car had a hold, after he said car is headed to VPC. You are scheduled for PCD, didn't you salesman contact you? Mine was scheduled for 8/18 and my sales guy emailed me last week the notice he got from BMWNA saying car has a hold. Tell your guy to stop slacking. Therein lies the other problem, my lock expires in August, and now i know the dam car won't be here.. so i need bmw to extend my lock. I will call them tomorrow. |

Nothing new to report today, though we'll see what their 'specialist' has to say when I hear from him/her in 2-3 days.

BMW Genius told me today the status of my ED car has gone from "awaiting ship" to "at retail". Now that is something new, even he couldn't explain what is going on, except advising me to call my CA. Does anyone know what this means? I dropped it off on 7/15.

BMW geniuses sometime have no idea what they are talking about. They could tell you today the car is at VPC, but next day they could said the car is pending for custom release.
I am giving up calling genius now and just patiently waiting my CA to tell me that my car is at dealership and ready for pick up.

Positive update from Germany:
Spoke with my dealer and he stated that the replacement parts for my M3 can be ordered as of today. He has scheduled to do the repairs next week, but cannot commit to a specific handover time/date yet. My guess is that he will have to wait until BMW gives the dealers the green light for the release. Looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel ... |

So we are at the Welt now. I spoke with customer service and was told that the differentials are "heating up" and could possibly "fall" out of the car. Not good. They were supposed to get the new Diffs in yesterday to start repairs but now have been told 2 more weeks. Sorry guys for the bad news.

Thats crazy.. Fall off the car????? Had never heard that before... I doubt that is accurate or they would have stopped the cars that are currently running on the streets.

That's entirely false. I don't even know what else to say. Either he's trolling or the rep who gave him this info is extremely misinformed.
