These are the calibers from my department since inception
1950-1995 - 357 magnum in some type of S&W revolver
1995-2002 - .40s&w in a S&W 4046 (I started with this in 1998)
2002-2008 - .40s&w in a Glock 22
2008-2018 - gen3 Glock 31 in 357SIG (I took over and switched us to this because I got tired of buying my own ammo)
2018-2031? - gen4 Glock 31 in 357SIG w/Trijicon RMR
I've stated this before I would carry a 1911 if I was a LEO. my brother in law just retired after 47 years in law enforcement. He said his department abandoned 357 magnum because they were just go through guys

I can't imagine all the weight they carry on those belts. The gun is just part of it.

A lot of guys were suspenders on their duty belt now. Pistol, mags (equal to a box of ammo), baton, CEW, handcuffs, radio, PPE pouch....and who knows what else.

There is brass ammo there. Make sure you deselect steel case.

Good luck. You can find some high end stuff around, but "blasting" and "stock up" ammo is still flying off the shelves. Put in a backorder and wait in line as some comes and goes and never shows as "in stock".

I'm in the industry and our 223 brass is sold out past Sept already and we are turning away business left and right.

It started out all 9mm and a little 223 and now the 223 is the big mover.

Also - check your chamber. If you are shooting a AR and it has a "223 Wylde" chamber (stamped on the barrel near the receiver) - that means you can shoot 223 Rem OR 5.56 Nato in it safely. A lot of AR makers are moving to that chamber for this reason and sometimes the 5.56 ammo will hide on the shelf from the uneducated new shooters. If it is not stamped 223 Wylde or 5.56 Nato - do NOT shoot 5.56 Nato in it though.

I'd say 223 will be tough to find for the remainder of the year with crap like this going on.

Good luck!

Try Targetsportsusa.com. They still had some 223 when I was ordering a few things a couple of days ago.

I use luckygunner.com

Edit: wow just looked and the pickings are slim! Expensive too with 9mm ball ammunition at stupid prices. Feeling like I made a good move in keeping my ammo well stocked at all times.

Unluky, thats actually a great idea, i didn't think of that..will try that out.

savage, how much is a shotgun like that? beautiful piece. I dont really have budget, if its nice, and fits my hand well, i'll buy it.
I was gonna offer to guide you thru the process if you were local. I have to inevitably go to miami to help out a buddy so if you still need help or have questions just shoot me a PM.

One thing for sure. You need optics or sights. Right now neither. LOL.

I've always favored something like a Trijicon ACOG. But I understand price might be a factor and they aren't cheap. But unless you want a bench rest shooter and trying to shoot one hole at 100 yards a red dot is the best all around IMO.
Lol the ACOG is gonna be more expensive than the rifle.

If you have large hands, stay AWAY from the shield. I'd personally go 509 because FN has been far more reliable in my experience.

I usually use gunbot.net to find ammo. I haven't bought any this year, I stocked up last year. Coworkers and friends have been hitting me up for ammo lately.

I think I'm going to make a trip to the local PD to get a couple of pistol purchasing permits. Thinking of picking up a Sig Sauer P365.

Great gun - I just got the SAS version earlier this year and I have to say it is the best carry gun I have ever owned. My eyes are not what they use to be, but that built in sight is spot on perfect and I can pick it up even with no glasses at all. Ported barrel seems to work and flip is nothing.

Slippery smooth and nothing pokes me (I appendix carry) which is rare. Slightly larger than a LCP, but holds 10+1 of 9mm instead of 6+1 of 380. IWB I can barely tell the difference in size.

I put 100 or so though it last weekend. Not a single bobble and actually nice to shoot - much better than a micro 380 etc. I can get all 4 fingers on it but that is it which is perfect.

Need a tool to strip it due to the antisnag - but you could use any screwdriver, quarter, or brass head in a pinch. I am 100% happy with it.
