Vaultek and GunVault are two brands that come to mind for night stand safes with easy access

I have a GunVault safe. Had it for many years and the biometric works on it but I program my finger into it many times (finger being dry, moist, etc).

Took some time to look up what I have..

I have the older version of this:
Gun Vault MVB500

It has worked for many years and can open on first or second try about 95% of the time. I think I put in as 6 recording of my fingerprint to ensue it would recognize it.

Modern ones that look pretty cool:
Vaultek Slider

My friend just bought one of these.. He brought it over when he came over to pick up his handgun (I'm a FFL). It was more hefty that I expected.
Vaultek Pistol Safe

Right now I believe Vaultek is more cutting edge than GunVault but GunVault is typically cheaper than Vaultek. Reason being is that Vaultek is very exclusive on who they want as a dealer (ie They won't let me be a dealer for them). Vaultek offers things like biometric, button, and tracking to determine if someone moved your gun safe.

My friend said he bought his from a company in Texas called Armadillo Safe. I have no relation to them, nor have I bought from them before. He told me he did get his safe from there within a week, with a 5% discount for first time buyers.

Wow thanks for the info, that’s a good idea you had though of doing your print with wet hands etc. vaultek seems to be mentioned a lot but all the “tech” is why I hesitate. Have you had problems with the gunvault accepting your print or code but not unlocking? I read a few review where over time that’s happened

Don’t know if you’d want to nightstand mount it, but you could. Keypad + key backup. 4 digit keypad, but you can do combo presses to have more complex passcodes.
I really do like those but not sure my HD gun would fit

I have this on my nightstand. I'd have to get my glasses out to see who makes it. Had it for years still works great

Yeah, I’m just putting a semi-compact in it, so there’s plenty of room but I could see some not fitting well. It’s basically just something that keeps it out of kids hands that’s easy to use. If someone really wanted to steal it, they’d pry bar it off of the stud it’s mounted to and go to town on it somewhere else.

Yea that’s all I really want something that opens when I want it to, keeps it away from the non-thieves and fulfill my legal obligation. A really long time ago I bought a Stack-on safe and it was terrible. Even the warranty replacement did the same thing it would unlock but it wouldn’t open. I’d have to use the key and bang on it

Over 5 years, my GunVault Biometrics has never failed to open. Majority of them on the "first try". First try meaning first button press to activate the biometrics, I start sliding my finger multiple times over the sensor like crazy.
I think I changed the battery on it maybe twice.. Long lasting.

Really it is hard to say. Tech makes it nice and convenient it really sucks when they fail. If I were to get another safe I would honestly try the Vaultek.. They seem to have a lot of cool features.

Oh I forgot to mention if your worried about biometrics.. you can get button press version.

Vaultek does 3 in 1 which I like.. button back up for the biometric, key backup for failure of biometric and buttons.

GunVault I don't know if they have the 3 in 1 option. Once I have are Biometric with key backup, and push button with key backup. Fortunately I haven't had to use either... which now reminds me I better find the backup keys just in case!

Badass rifle but, price tag is insanity. Barrett takes their pricing model from Porsche.

Considering the intent is to provide US special forces and Army with a tool that provides battlefield superiority; I'll give Barrett a pass. This is a work tool, not a piece of sports equipment.

Oh I know exactly who uses these. And I know why these are priced so high.

I was being facetious since all their rifles I’m interested in are 11k plus and shoot 3 dollar rounds.

I’ve been debating whether to buy an HK USC. I live in MA so it’s a coin toss whether I’d be able to make it look “normal” Anyone have one or any thoughts?
