There is a lot of lens envy going on here eh?
The 300 was kind to me today while watching my birdies. What do you think of this? Color, composition?

beautiful shot Kevin. I love the composition, but I think the bird can use a little more exposure (the wings are perfect though).

Great color and composition, but, as Chewy says, you need a little more +EV on the bird. That'll wash out the back more, so then you might need to change the crop to get more attention on the bird. Back lighting is tough, particularly if you're trying to balance the subject and the BG. With such a strong lighting differential you often have to pick one or the other. I usually default to the subject.

Or keep the image as is and just lighten the exposure on the bird only. Easy enough to do in ACR or PS. The colors are awesome, just lighten the bird.

I think they are shooting parts of Batman in Pittsburgh... it's a dark, hopeless city after all, right?

Ashu and Dave,
yes I agree and tried to balance the bird to the plants. It's rare I get a good background.

Mark,
uh yeah, I'll get my son for that. He said I wasted my money on PS since I can't use it. Then again, that is what Adobe student discounts are for.

Thank you all for the critique.

I think the background is fine...I find the on focus plant on the left to be an issue...only because you then have two subject matters in the picture and they eyes are wondering between the two.
