i'm on only about .65 acres and I sometimes think it's too much yard. the next community over all the houses sit on 1 acre. honestly it would be cool to sit on 1 acre but I notice most of those houses don't have much of landscaping probably because of the cost. even with just grass it gets expensive just to water. after how much I have to spend each year on fertilizer, weed control, irrigation and plants I think i'm good with mine lol

How about some moderate sized evergreens in large pots close together near the pool so the roots are contained?

Carbon-X....also known as "not available", too. lol. I read somewhere (Lawn Site forums, I think) that GCF will sell to individuals if you contact them directly but I haven't tried.

I ordered a bag of Hyr-Brix fertilizier that Pete from GCI has been raving about. Bags aren't badley priced and you can reduce the drop rate to lay less N but...holy crap....shipping was $22. I found something at a local nursery that had a curious lable on it. Almost seems like a custom blend containing Mess, XRT, & Milo and I can't find anything online.

Check out b-hyve, i had my system done last year and my landscaper installed it to automate everything. I have 7 Zones and it has a great app, you can allow it be ‘smart’ or you can define custom programs...it cool to be able to control your usage anywhere you are online.

I actually just got it on the way home. Cost $120 at Home Depot, and my water district offers an $80 rebate. I'm super happy about that. I won't have time to install it until next week though.

Let us know how it works out. We have a well for irrigation so we are not on city water but somewhat interested in one of these to optimize watering and adjusting programs more easily from an app. So app reliability and functionality would also be important, including just turning on and not following programs when I want to run irrigation in one or more zones (for example after fertilizing). We have a mechanical dial timer with an off / off / timed on toggle switch that is super easy to use outside and works fine for the basics but it could be a little more advanced.

Last summer I had a bunch of palm trees in pots. They weren't very tall but the wind still blew them over during thunder storms. I need to get someone to see if we can build some type of box or planter that would be able to hold the trees without the roots breaking through.

Ideally, I'd like to plant arborvitae, not only to cover the fence and have some green but so they will grow high and give me some privacy. I have about 5 feet from the pool edge to fence line. When the pool is covered, I have less than that, and need more room for the straps and anchors for the pool cover.

If I was completely out of my mind, I would shorten the pool. It's pretty long and runs the length of the property. Not sure why they didn't do it across the width.

Looks good. Lots of Micros too! I know Pete sells CarbonX but I ordered from Allyn Hayne since Ihe first caught my interest in lawn care. For fall over seeding I'll probably go with Pete's Tall Fescue grass

I did some spot weed spraying last weekend with RTU RoundUp for Lawns and I have to say it works pretty well. I didn’t broadcast - only spot sprayed weeds I could see, including 2 small patches of crab grass in different spots. I noticed everything dying / dead when I took the dog out this morning, with minimal yellowing of grass around the weeds. I do wish the sprayer with the RTU bottle worked a little better but it is manageable.

I had one installed last year. I live on one acre with 12 zones and using the smart features have saved me a ton in water bills vs. the old set it and forget digital timer.

How easy is it to just run off cycle such as after fertilizing? I read some reviews of different apps and some seem like you can't just simply turn it on an off whenever you want without overwriting and existing program.

did you watch the whole vid? looks incredibly easy like you can turn it on/off/run it at will. you can even setup different cycle calendars for different times of the year, like a summer/winter schedule.

Correct. Very easy. You just open app and you can do quick runs on any specific zone for what ever time you want and it will go back to how you previously had set. You can use smart water and it will decide when and how much to water based off temperature, soil type, and predicted weather or set your own schedule.

Which one looks good? The Hyr-Brix or the Green Yard? lol The Hyr-Brix wasn't delivered today.....last update was 0128 in Indianapolis w/ no current delivery date.

Yeah, GCI carries Carbon-X but he's been out for a while as well. Oh well.

I just mowed a little lower in the backyard (2.5") since I'll drop some top soil, seed, and throw down a starter fert and won't be able to mow for a bit. Was thinking of putting down RGS as well prior to the seeds and fert. I cut the front to 3" and will put down RGS tomorrow. If the Hyr-Brix comes in, I'll put that down. Otherwise, I might just try that GreenYard stuff as a final (well...only) pre-summer feed.
