Uhhhh, if you don't shoot but buy equipment it's an asset. Imagine one day some lunatic puts a ban on guns and you can't buy them anymore. Imagine one day zombies walk the earth, whatta you gonna use? Steak knives? What if a cheetah is charging you? |

Depends on how much money you have or how anal you are.
For me, it's always cheaper to buy them than make them because my time is more valuable than the investment of loading my own. Nor am i that anal. I shoot for tactical accuracy, not pin point accuracy. Even the cheapest ammo you can buy is tactical accurate. If i were to spend my Saturdays at the 1000yd range shooting competition long distance, i'd likely make my own. But then it wouldn't be for the savings. I have a buddy who loads his own and shoots in weekly matches at the WAC (video above) His set up does all processes with each pull of the lever which has increased his production by 5x. (used to be 5 lever pulls for each round, now after the first five pulls, each pull produces a round) But his cost, without his time factored in, is only a couple of pennies per round cheaper than what you can buy factory reloads for. But what he really loads for is to make the perfect round for his race guns. By fine tuning the rounds, putting just enough powder in to cycle the slide, he can get back on target quicker taking milliseconds off of his shooting times.

Shooting at my friends tree farm is the best. We always set up some goofy stuff and compete with each other. Much more fun that static paper shooting.

It really is a blast. We each set up 10 green army men and each get 15 shots, usually only about 50 yards out so hard to see them. Actually shot my shield 9 one day and found a bullet just resting on top of a log, not mushroomed or anything, just a pretty little bullet lol.

Out of curiousity, for those who have thought about these things, would you ever use a .45 in a home defense situation or do you think it would punch through walls and cause an issue re: possibly going into neighbours?
TLDR for Axius - home defense - .45 or nah? |

Zeroed iron and rds on ak today went well. Front post needs to be pushed and don't have tool was off 2 inches left. Rds set 25 yard zero and group was 1.25 spread for 5 shots. Will give me effective 0-250 range to work with.

I say nah it's a lil much...best case scenario you're redoing your walls and floors out of pocket. I use .40 for the home and carry pistol I've heard some say that more than needed for home. Go with a smaller caliber and more rounds per clip I say unless u live in a state like me and can only have 10 either way

I'll keep it in mind...but since .45 is what I have, it is what would be used if it ever came to that. Hopefully never will, and I can't imagine ever having time to get to it in that type of situation unless the bad guys phone ahead, but good to know it probably packs too much punch and I should be endeavouring to shoot towards the woods if I can. |
