Tim,
I think this is where Dave and his 500 would shine, getting the details on the top of the Chrysler building. I just google mapped the building looking for a good spot and did see a view from across the river. You would have to do it in the morning though.
Someday I might get to NY, Empire State, Chrysler, Brooklyn bridge and BH photo.

The top of the Chrysler would be about all I'd get with my 500mm, but it'd be nicely detailed, I assure you.

I have done some scenics with the 500mm and the compressed distances yields some very interesting perspectives. It's great when there's something like a ship a mile away and a mountain 50-miles away. It pulls them together. There has to be almost no haze for it to work.

Dave, I think that might be Grouse mountain. Whistler is quite a drive inland and should be below the horizon. I think Grouse is ~4k feet.

I was thinking that your lens would get the details of the Chrysler up to, it looks pretty nice.

Kevin - Holding a 500mm lens in the city would be a hassle in the heat and draw too much attention to myself

here's a more detail shot

bit o stainless and mortar. Very nice.

Although I think some of your paparazzi photos made you really obvious. Setting up a tripod for your other Chrysler shot, no that wasn't too obvious ;-)

Now, if only you can get that rooftop access.
