Called Customer Relations on Friday 7/22 and requested supervisor to call me back (wait time was >1h). I would advise to the same to my fellow bimmerpost members and all waiting. We are the ones paying their paychecks...we demand updates.

just a thought, what if the cars that they say are "affected" aren't really ALL affected, maybe it was possible that they COULD have been, because they were all built in that time frame? Maybe BMW is erring on the side of caution and they want to do vehicle checks before shipping out/delivery etc..
Just thinking... |

I'ms guessing it's a major issue and they don't even know how to fix it at this point. They are probably working with their supply chain to identify the issue and then have them build prototypes that can be tested and then sent to production if they test out. I think you guys are looking at a 2-3 months for the replacement parts to be produced and shipped best case scenario right now. Could be 6 months+ if things doing go well.
I wouldn't be signing off on anything that settles with BMW taking one payment or 2. This could get ugly. |

There is no way it would take 6 months. They can revert back to doing the diffs the same way they did them before May 14.
The fix will be quicker than we think. I think a couple of weeks tops. |

Here down under, BMW AUS said no recalls attached to my VIN (20th of May). Maybe it only applies to LHD?
I saw the pic and it had markets, but have no idea what those numbers mean. Maybe someone in the know how can see if those markets are LHD. my2c

Been playing out a similar situation in my head. Who knows what kind of backlog this could lead to - no concept for how easily this supplier can bang out 3,000 differentials. Alternatively, for those of us who haven't taken delivery yet, is it possible to just rebuild the current diff with a new part? Seems like that would be faster, but maybe there are some with a lot more technical expertise than I have. |

From what i've been told it would seem the whole rear diff would be replaced to remove the risk of damaging the drivetrain.
Given BMW uk are providing support cars to impacted customers untill 1st september I would assume the issue would be resolved by then. |

For napkin math, let's say they can do it in 2hrs. That's 7600 man hours to replace diffs in 3800 cars. Assuming they have 20 dedicated techs who do nothing but replace diffs, and each tech is working 10 hour days, it would take 38 days to fix them all (53 days if they get weekends off). If replacement takes 4hrs, we're looking at 76 days...you get the idea.

The bigger issue is going to be supplying all these new diffs.
