Picked up some Talisker Storm and Johnnie Walker Green today. Trying both back to back, so far I'm really liking both. Trying to add more single malts and blends to my collection, as if I needed more.

Niece drooped off my Christmas present today, Gentleman Jack with a couple glasses. It was lost until she moved this past weekend
I've had a bottle before and couldn't swallow it. Today was a totally different experience Cheers

What I like about it is the smoke is subtle. And honey, don't forget the honey. ;-)

Have had other dalwhinnie's before, but not the 15yr old, but very doubtful that it would be peaty / smoky. It's known as the "Gentle Giant". And the ones I've had have been decent, not my favourite scotch, but decent to be sure. On the milder side.

And yes, it is mild and also reasonably priced for a quality 15 year old. That said, the smoke is there.

I think the Jim Beam versions are way better than the Crown. Have you tried them? The apple is great. At first I thought the honey was too sweet, but I got used to it and now I love it when the mood strikes.

If you like honey as a mixer, find a bottle of Barenjager, a German honey liqueur that enhances whiskey cocktails like nobody's business.

It will be difficult to find though... Worth it.

For good Irish whiskey or Scotch I only have glass and booze, no ice, no mixes, no adders.

I was that way until I started trying a splash of seltzer (just carbonated water). Now I'm hooked. I still don't do ice in Scotch, but I do keep the seltzer in the fridge.

I have not, I usually would just drink regular Crown until someone told me they had apple and really liked it. I have a bottle of JW Black label, but I know once I open it I will not savor it and end up hammering the whole thing down, so there's that.

My girlfriend picked up a bottle of Jim Beam Apple for me and I was hooked. I also got hooked on JW Black, and you're right -- you will end up hammering the whole thing down. At least that's what I do, it's just so good. My GF last week bought me a bottle of JW Blue, I'll definitely have to take it more easy with that.

No, I just meant that there are hints of honey in the Dalwhinnie. Not sure when the last time was that I actually intentionally tasted honey.

That said, I go to Munich on 6/4 for two weeks (no not for an ED ) and I would be happy to look for the Barenjager for you if you want.

Had a supplier take me out to dinner one day and tried a bunch of different drinks, and holy shit Glenlevit (sp?)...., never again, that shit is raw. Makers Mark..., so so, would probably drink it only at the end of a night of drinking.

I have some Glenlivet 12 and if that's the one you had, I'm surprised. It's actually a very "mild" scotch as far as scotches go. Did you drink it neat? Try diluting it with a little bit of water. That's what I do with most single malts. Also swish it around your mouth a little bit before swallowing. If you take a big gulp of undiluted scotch and swallow it you will most likely not enjoy the experience.

Good advice. Glenlivet 12 is mild for a scotch and a great daily. It may just be that you prefer bourbon or American whiskey to scotch.

Can't recall exactly which one it was, just had it straight up and sipped. Just wasn't really feeling it, might try adding some water, but I usually just drink everything on the rocks. I'll have to give it another shot one day.

Whiskey has grown on me, used to not like it, but now it's my end of the night drink. Miller Fortune or Molson XXX during the day, because it's cheaper than Crown or JW.
