I'm not that young but holy shit do I feel like I just spent the weekend in a history class. I love it, I never got to get much stories of the past and always found it fascinating how far we've come, especially tech wise.

It's not even about how old some things are. My biggest thing is how much more creative we were with the innovations. We were installing fucking record players into cars for fucks sake lol. Men to the moon. IBM. Macintosh. Commodore. Zenith. RCA. Apple Pie.

I truly am enjoying this. I spent most of the past two days going down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos from a lot of the things posted so truthfully all kidding aside? I appreciate it. I don't imagine I would've had these convos anytime soon outside the forums.

You bought one of the first CD players that came out. I Paid $700 for a Philip CD-100.

Back then there were only a few dozens of CD's available. Paid $25 for my first one; Bridge Over Trouble Water.

A few years later "Columbia House" dropped the Cassette and you could get CD's for pretty cheap.

My brother still use it...

Holy shit lmfao. So then technically they still haven't won a Super Bowl? Lol

Damn I googled it. They won four "championships" but never in the SB era. They've never won and never been to the super bowl. Worse? They're the only nfc team never to make it and they've been around since the beginning.

Good for you, context is everything.

I remember watching my grandfather watching Neil Armstrong back in 69 on a colour TV and thinking that in his life time, he went from having no electricity to someone walking on the moon.

I also remember getting my wife the first iPad just over 11 years ago (she had a few more since) and I'm no longer surprise by the Technology.

Truthfully, the only thing that would impress me would be a "Star Trek Like Transporter"

Dude, just had a convo with a friend TODAY about the Queen because they said she's just a few years from her mother's age. Had to google it and the Queen Mother lived from 1900 to 2002. My immediate thought was - "oh damn, the fucking stories that woman must've had." The shit she's seen from 1900 to 2002?! She went from stage coaches to Range Rovers. Fucking wild.

I bought THE first CD player that came out from Sony in 1982. Bought it at a Sony store in Tokyo but there were hardly any CDs available yet. Man it was something else to have "the future" in your own home and hardly anyone had one yet.

I had only seen SD slots in Audis until now. Didn't know they had them in MBs.
Actually I need to correct myself here. My MB C300 had an SD slot in the dash. My current GLC300 has a USB port in the center storage box. I have a mini thumb drive in there with my music on it. Sorry for the confusion. Blame it on old age. It's why we have this thread, after all.

Yeah my current BMW also has a USB C slot in the center storage box and I too use a thumb drive that stores my music and it's great.

She has to get coding done first to the car in order to play Blu-ray movies from the thumb drive though, lol. But it's so simple so quick. Plug it into obii port and voila.

Also can turn on all the euro features. The features they shut off for North America cuz, ya know, we sue happy.

Hmm not so sure about euro features these days. They seem to want to make everything quiet nowadays.

Euro features meaning features technology wise.

When the mirrors didn't fold in or when we couldn't roll up the windows when the doors open? That stuff. Or I can lock my door when the engines running.

https://bimmercode.app/cars/g30/ - here's a list of "codes" that can be unlocked. Features to activate. If you go previous gen cars and even the gem before that, there's a lot more to unlock. Some of them I don't do (I leave seatbelt chimes on) for example but the door chimes are now rolls Royce - only because they're softer and more pleasant sounding LOL

Oh, and Euro MDM setting? It's less forgiving then USA MDM setting. Meaning, tail end will swing out a bit more before the nannies kick in.

Until I fall out of love with CD's (which probably won't happen anytime in the near future) then yes it's the slot for me.

Man I don’t download shit anymore and I recall waiting hours for one song on Naps… errrr, iTunes….?

Just Bluetooth or if you must hardwire for lossless audio I still stream only. Gone are my days of the download.

I download FLAC files if I like the particular track enough and willing to actually pay for it. Yes, I pay for my music downloads whereas I know some that don't. Lol. I enjoy streaming like the next guy but when I'm in my car especially, I don't want to rely on streaming.

It's funny because I never used Napster back in the day and didn't really understand what all the fuss was about. Much like another member here I really liked having a physical CD in hand. One day I kind of felt forced into getting an iPod because a previous car (Infiniti) came with (at that time) a proprietary cable in conjunction with the audio system. I was pissed because it wouldn't work with my MP3 player at the time so I gave in and bought an iPod Classic. I hated using iTunes but didn't have much choice. I don't use anything Apple except for my Mac Book Pro on occasion. Those days are long gone now. I don't even think FLAC works with Apple products but not sure? The equivalent would be a WAV file if I'm not mistaken but I think they're even a bit larger in size which is a pain.

I think one of these days M5Rick will cave and go to the dark side once he realizes the convenience albeit many years later.
