Yeah you'll want a riser rail for that. Don't get a super expensive one or anything but don't get a cheapo either; the nicer ones weigh a LOT less and mount more securely. Don't get a Chinese-made one, they are usually solid steel with crappy hardware.

That optic looks really nice though. 2-6X is perfect for an AR.

Larue mounts are pricey but they're really good

Many optics need a riser rail to mount properly on an AR. Even if it fits without one you may have trouble getting your cheek down far enough for a proper sight picture.
Id put the iron sites off to the side at a 45 degree angle.

After a 6 months wait for Gun Permits(peoples republic of NJ) I had to run to my FLL's place and pic up the CZ 75 D PCR---. That he was holding for me for 5 months in his safe.
The range is literally around the corner from his place. WOW!!!, what a great gun!!! 200rds down range, home and a good cleaning

Co-witnessing is nice, but not necessary. It makes sighting in one or the other easier, as well as telling if the zero has been bumped. (if it's a big bump) The point of BUIS is that they are back up to your primary sighting system. If you're primary sighting optic is working properly and not damaged or pushed off of zero, there is no reason to use BUIS. If you're optic is damaged, dead battery, moved from zero, etc... the best thing to do is remove it from the rifle for an unimpeded view of your NEW primary sighting system.

A quick release mount makes it easy and fast to remove. As well as replace if it's something as simple as replacing a battery, cleaning, etc... Larue is hard to beat for a reliable return to zero quick release mount.

He might have SHTF scenarios in mind when wanting to co-witness BUIS

I wasn't responding specifically to him. Just a general statement about how co-witnessing is merely a convenience procedure. Once your optic is zeroed and your irons are zeroed, you can and will use them independently. You're never going to use them simultaneously.

What the hell do you have on your rail that's making you run out of space?

Light on one side and laser on the other. 7" rail keeps weight down. Yes I know they're both not super necessary but SHTF I'd rather have it. Plus I don't think home invaders will respect if I call time out to remove the ACOG.

Why would you remove it?

I think he means hunting deer with an AR. It's illegal in most states to shoot deer with a .22 cal projectile (this includes .223/5.56).

As for fully automatic weapons, you can own any pre-1986 fully automatic IF you have the money for one. It's a 200$ tax stamp plus whatever you are paying for the gun (Usually upwards of 15K). You can also own newer ones if you are a Class 3 dealer; they can only be sold to LE and Gov't. They are also subject to inspection at any time by the ATF, and if they come wanting to see it, you had better have it there.
Usually it's a mag capacity restriction that the gun can hold no more than 5. Also, depending on the state, 223 are legal, but the amo needs to meet certain energy requirements at certain yardage. I believe Nebraska use to be illegal to use 22 cal but changed to energy requirements when AR became more popular...me, I just use a 150 gr. 300 short mag. No guessing.

Its state dependant. Id use 3006 or 7mm for deer. I dont need to be chasing blood trails.

Or you could just use a .338 Lapua and just pick up the pieces of the deer you wish to keep...

In case of home defense the 4x zoom would be too much. Shifting to rmr or canted iron sights if you need to use it closer range. I have the laser there in case but the laser is more prone to losing zero

30 06 is going to drop them, had an opportunity to buy buddies 308 win mag but last time he shot a deer arpund 70 yards out it caught the shoulder and blew out the opposite side. Looked like someone stuffed a little grenade in the deer, blew it to pieces.
