This was literally the most boring of boring races. No strategy, no pushing...no anything other than testing tire longevity.
I think the next 4-6 races will be interesting but I think the RB20 will be very strong at the traditional tracks where they can get the ride height low again and get optimal downforce like when they were 1+ second per lap faster in China, and I think the hints at the big upgrade are hopefully the right step. It's funny, in a straight up race, Pia is really on another level compared to Nor who I simply don't think is that good and as Pia starts to outperform him, it will be funny to watch him try to drive in that style and not do well with it - kind of like how few could even attempt to drive in Max's style (which Pia is more similar too). I do think Pia got lucky here because everyone was managing tires and this is a big weakness of his. Hopefully we get back to regularly scheduled Max winning over the next several races. A nice 5 or 6 win streak would be nice and want to see that 60th win! Also hope Per gets back up there with some 1-2 finishes. |

Could well be at Montreal MAX will get his 60th win but this correlation mentioned before between the sim and real time on the car is a problem that will hopefully be sorted quickly by RBR. |

The Red Bull sponsor number one is the American 'Oracle my friend The RB sim and car are running with best advanced software . The RB20 setup issue is "fundamental" This means 'how the car is/was built . And that means rumbling in the RB jungle ... Of course , MAX won his 5 races . But that was by the MAX-Factor . MAX at Imola : Hey guys , It's like I'm driving on ice ?!?! Checo on the other hand , there's no way he can perform with this car . And that's bad news for the contructors rankings... #DesignFlaw (!)

Checo's new car will be like a test-mule in the coming races to fix the RB20 setup issues .

I was thinking this also as it's disassembled it may be an opportunity to find the design fault that's having a knock on effect on destabilising the car with the rough suspension.

They have put a new asphalt layer at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve track (Montreal GP)
It's still very slippery !

The RB20 has largely looked dominant in Max's hands and certainly seems to have significant advantages at smooth tracks, but these bumpy tracks and crap street circuits (which IMO we should be moving away from) seem to be more difficult. I don't think there is another driver who could have won 5 of 8 races like Max has, but if anyone had they would be shouting how dominant they were. Max had looked really impressive so far this season, and without the brake issue in Aus, he would have won that, and in Mia without the SC he'd have won that and we'd be looking at 7 out of 8 wins for Max which is even better. Do you know anything about the upgrade Per hinted at? |

This is why I think it's so tough in F1. You're eventually going to hit some times where things don't go right. I know Ferrari and Mclaren have made some strides, but realistically I don't think they're going to keep moving forward all the time and as we have seen this year, they have not look at consistent as the RB20 has. The R18 and RB19 both were the same though, wherein the design was not as compatible with bumpy track in which they needed to raise the ride height. I believe I had read a while back that as little as 5mm can have a 10% impact on downforce, so it's no surprise that they wouldn't be making as much or the same amount consistently across a lap. |
